An unexpected downpour just as the first project briefing was taking place surprised the 45+ person volunteer crew at the PMBA September trail maintenance day, sponsored by FOW. However this group of mixed park users was not discouraged, and completed what has to be the groups most successful TMD to date. The leadership personnel had their ducks in a row, so to say, and had the multiple crews working in unison. Generous people of all ages, whether bicyclists, equestrians, hikers, or a combination of all types of users, gave up their Saturday morning in the name of a great cause: to protect and enhance the trail system in the Wissahickon while making it ecologically and environmentally sustainable so all users can enjoy this precious resource forever. (wow, that's a mouth full!) Special thanks and recognition need to go out to the following: Dedicated PMBA and FOW leaders, and all the volunteers! The staff at the FPC, who came out the week prior and repaired the grading at the top of this trail section, as well as provided crucial materials (top soil and mulch) and tools. The FOW who provided use of their Ditch Witch, Gator and tools. The PWD who came out prior to show us where not to dig. High Point Coffee in Mt. Airy and Jan for cooking up that delicious pulled pork and beef brisket.
Go out and enjoy the new trail! It is awesome! If you would like to leave feedback on this trail, please look under "Wissahickon" section of the forum. Come on let's hear it, good, bad, indifferent... Here are some pics: Click Here to View
