Another good MTB group working hard in PA
SAMBA
I heard from IMBA Trail Solutions folks, who are working right now in Wiss, some good things about new trails they are building out that way. Not to far from us. Might be a good destination for next day/or weekend trip, meet-n-greet-n-ride trip!

I might be able to get someone to show us around the Mt.Gretna trails. I talked to a guy who rides expert DH on those trails some time back. If I can get a hold of him I might be able to get us a guide to the good stuff.

I was over riding at the Swatara Gap today which is SAMBA built and maintained. Man was it awesome! There was so much flow! Lots of logs, log rides and creek crossings. There are four separate trails (A-D). I don't know any milage but we rode for over an hour and didn't make it on all of them. I can't wait to ride there again next week!
Here's a pic from today...

None of you guys have been to Mt. Gretna?? It's about an 1.5 hour west of Philly right off the Lebanon turnpike exit. I usually take the back roads from Lancaster when I'm out that way visiting the in-laws. Great area and a very cool little town. The town itself is an old vacationing spot with a lake club and bunch of little ice cream shops tucked into the base of the mountains. A ton of little old school vacation homes from the early 20th century line the bottom of the valley. We should definitely do a ride out there..........couple of really nice long climbs and rolling single track.

Cool. Let's throw some dates out. Mark? Jeremy? When may be good for you guys? It's always good to have someone who knows the trails. Plenty of weekends left in the season. If we can agree on a date, maybe we can camp out again.

I know there are a couple camp grounds in the area. Do Swatara a Saturday and then Gretna on Sunday....I am thinking maybe September would be good for me. I have pretty much something going on every weekend in August...

I was thinking something like this as well. But more like Gretna in the morning, Swatara in the afternoon....then trying some of the trails a bit north near Lykens the next day. I hear there are a bunch up there and they are loaded with rocks etc.

Yeah, http://home.epix.net/~rebjsw/RCSTWeb/ is the club who take care of the Lykens area.
Just North/NW of Swatra, probably worth hitting that too if out that way.

Rattling Creek in Lykens is going to be another 45 minutes to an hour above Swatara Gap. If this is something that everyone was interested in doing, I would recommend doing Lykens Saturday, then coming back to camp around Swatara that night. Sunday would be Swatara and then Gretna b/c the trails at Gretna are right at the turnpike at the Lebanon exit.
The weekend of Sept 13th would be doable but the weekend of the 27th would be better.
The weekend of the 20th is the last MASS race race for anyone following that.

I just found out that the 13th is our beach weekend...
We may have to go into October to make this work. The 27th would work, but Tom is out of town that weekend.

Well as much as I'd love to do this, if a bunch of you want to do 27th I'll just bail for the sake of the group. No worries. Chances are I will still camp and ride some time in October. Great time of year to camp.
About this 70 mile ride. Are there any bailouts? It sounds like it would be a great time. I'll bet lots of cool people to ride with, but some of us will not make 70 miles. I'd be down to camp and try at least some of it. Or just ride till I fall apart.

the ride is actually fully supported and paced. it is called the "fleeing yams" ride. for no other reason then the club being called yamba. i am sure there will be lots of people as i am told alot of people look forward to the ride.
we would be starting at lake redman, then to spring valley park. from there looping back to other trails at LR then taking the rail trail across york to rocky ridge and then back to more trails at lake redman again. there is someone (or someones) that will be meeting us at rest stops and you can leave food with them and other necessities. at some point we all pitch in and get a big lunch then continue on. yes, there would be plenty of bail outs. also, the group will get smaller as people drop off.
as for camping, there would be some in the area close by but if there weren't too many people, there is always my place and or my yard....but a campground means fire, beer and other misc activities...
if anyone is interested, let me know!

I grew up in York, or as a once decent band labled it, "Sh#t Town". Decent trails and a wide amount of terrain to ride. That's a pretty large area to cover from Lake Redman/Lake Williams to Rocky Ridge and back again. Where are the bail out points??
You can camp at Indian Rock Campgrounds which is a few miles north of Lake Williams/Lake Redman.

yes, it is a large area to cover. the ride is a couple years strong, and people seem to enjoy it.
knowing that if anyone couldn't continue and wanted to bail out, it wouldn't be any problem for the "support crew" to give someone a ride back to their car.
Indian rock cg is what i had in mind too. minutes aways from the lakes and 83.
