PMBA and Courtesy Stables are jointly sponsoring another “Horse Bike Experience” day, scheduled for Sunday June 22 at Courtesy Stables at 10 AM.  The objective of this event is to foster communication, cooperation and understanding among bikers and horse riders, to familiarize bikers with proper procedures when encountering horses on trails, and to familiarize horses with the sights and sounds of bikes.  These events are important in facilitating cooperation among these two groups of trail users, and participants should be sincerely interested in working towards that goal.  Pictures of last year’s event are at http://picasaweb.google.com/jpearce08055/HorseBikeDayOctober2007.  We’re looking for about 6 bikers who would be interested in participating this time.  If you’re interested, please email me at jon at pearcefamily dot org.

Thanks

Jon

Had some trouble with my email, which is now fixed.  If anyone emailed me about this, please send again.

Please consider coming out for this event.  The equestrians are lining up riders, and we don't want to be embarassed by a poor showing by bikers.

Jon, if my wife hasn't had our baby by then (due June 21st) I'll try to be there. Last year was interesting and I did actually learn a lot about how a horse see us and the potential threat we appear to them. I'll keep you posted.......

Thanks - we still need a few more people.  C'mon - it's an interesting day and it will help our relationship with an important group of park users.

I think it took about 1-1/2 hours last time.  We did some exercises in the training ring and then moved out to the local trails.

I would definitely do this (I'm terrified of horses in general and could use the exposure), but the Neshaminy race is that day, too...  looks interesting, good luck!

Jon,

There is a slim chance that I can do this.  I need to go into Center City for pictures sometime that day, I just don't know what time yet.  If it is later I may be able to make it out to this.  When I find out I'll let you know.

I wish I could attend this myself but I have something else scheduled for this day. However, I did post it on both the Meetup sites. Hopefully it generates some interest.

Great - thanks.  Our numbers are looking good now.  We'll meet at Courtesy Stables at 10.  It may rain, but we can use the barn for shelter if necessary.

It went very well.  I'll have a write-up on the website tonight, and pictures within a few days.  Thanks to everyone who showed up.

I had great time and it was a great experience.  I can't wait to see the pics Jon.

We only had one scary moment, when one of the horses spooked and startled another horse which then came maybe a foot or two to planting its ass on Dave's face.

Scary at the time, but kind of funny when you think back on it.

Yeah.  It was a good time and great learning experience.  Also good to meet some equestrians and help bridge the biker horseback rider relationship.

Can't wait to see the pics as well.

Got lots of good pix but won't have time to post them for a couple of days.  Unless it rains at night - then I'll have plenty of time.
