Never seen her, lucky I guess. If this woman and her dogs are a regular problem, then she should be reported. But to who?
Also, as much as I love dogs, if these are threating like is seems and they don't respond to yelling....then I have no issue with someone hooking them up with doggy mace. If she isn't smart enough to control them, then they need to be taught that they aren't dominant over other trail users. A friend of mine takes his kids into the park on weekends. He has nothing but good things to say about the MTBRs....it's the unleashed dogs that scare his kids. And a big dog could be trouble for anyone, but especially a 6y.o. kid. Sounds nasty....

I've never seen her, but I HAVE gotten by white boxer or pitbull just past Kitchens a few weeks ago. There were two dogs that approached me, no owner in site so I stopped. Next thing I knew, the dog climbed my leg & latched itself to my forearm. No skin broken but when the owner finally saw me & his dog he really didn't do anything. Owner was some old man who claimed his dog doesn't do that stuff. He called his dog off then as I rode away I could hear the dog running behind me giving chase. I have to agree with Chuck though, you need to be able to control your animal at all times. I ride w/mine occassionally, but he doesn't get out of my view nor do I allow him to get more than 5-6ft from me. I don't like using big public places like Wiss to take him riding only b/c it's a big public place AND there are leash laws in PA that will get you in trouble. The only place I take mine is a local haunt, not real big, but just enough to get him out there.

Specifically adreessing big agresive dogs, I have notice over the years of riding in the Wiss, that a lot of Dog owners tend to be apathetic and laxidasical in their attitude of curbing their dogs when they are obviously startling other persons sharing the trail, which im sure most of us have experienced, its not the majority of dogs encountered.
They think they know their dog won't bite, have already made the decision not to leash the feroucious dog, and therefore are ignorant to peoples natural reaction when the not so tame- four legged monster goes rushing up to riders approaching and attempting to move past the beast in a peaceful manner. They know the dogs are a nussance, expecting the dogs to breifly trouble everyone the come accross on their walk, other peoples feelings are secondary to them(at most) to the breif freedom the dogs expeirence being unleashed in the woods, we are obsolete to the owners minds, and can't be acknowledge by the owner so they don't have to deal with the situation directly. Essentially putting themselves as a innocent observer, rather than being courtious toward us riders, they belive that since dogs are on the trails, its our problem to deal with, not the dog owners.

WOW, that was deep
Seriously though, I've met other riders, who don't post here, who have come across that same exact lady and her dogs. Coincicendlty in the same location too. The only improvement from previous encounters till now is she's muzzled them.

Ha. I know the lady! Dan Mercer Heidi and myself were walking up to the gate on Rex trail head after a long day work at Demo2 last August. When that lady pulled up and let those two dogs out of her car. The dogs quickly proceeded to bark and growl at us.
All three of us were pinned to our cars very scared, as the one, what looked like older and bigger of the two shepperds, was really getting aggressive. Both of them were UNmuzzled...
We told the lady to control her dogs and put them on the leash, but she completely ignored us and kept muttering to that beast "oh little thing, don't be scared of them"
WTF?!?! That monster scared of US?!?!
Luckily never saw her nor her dogs on the narrow trails, that would be a scary encounter!

Story after story... she sounds like a terrible dog owner who needs to have those animals removed from her "care."

Ok, so next time someone runs into her & the dogs do exactly that. Call an animal control officer to her car since she refuses to leash them & acknowledge the "dangerous dog" laws. Let the officers slam her w/a fine & deal with her.

Here is everything you want to know about the woman in question. This is from Jan who is a PMBA member and also a dog walking proponent. PLEASE REMEMBER, that this lady is a bad apple just like we have bikers who are bad apples. Let's not let the bad apples ruin it for the rest of us:
"A professional dog walker friend of mine says that woman is beyond nuts, her dogs killers, and so on. She says that when she sees her, she gathers her pack of dogs and leaves immediately. She has witnesses serious fights with those dogs where the owner doesn’t even try and break things up and deal.
Here is what I have got:
• her name is Joanne (unfort no last name)
• she is a doctor of some sort (homeopathic something or rather)
• she lives, or has ofc at, 123 Hilltop, Phil PA 19118 (between Rex and the train tracks near Shawnee in Ch Hill)
• her plate is ESS 6986 (BUT the person did not know if she still drives that car)
Apparently there are numerous complaints on record with Phila Police."
I'm not sure what if anything the Police will do to her, BUT you must be aware that, agree with it or not, that trail near the iron gate is not officially a biking trail. SO, if you are going to complain about her, you have to be aware that if you are on your bike you are not supposed to be on that trail. That is not to say she is ok, which it is obviuos she's not, but your argument and complaint will not carry as much weight with the authorities if you are breaking the rules as well...

I found this number, we probably all should have it in case of running into her:

I'm glad you found that number Dmitri, I was searching for that this morning as well.. in anycase, if you call & report a dangerous dog off-leash to them, type of dog, location, etc, they should come right out to investigate. Obviously this person doesn't give a rat's a$$ if her dog tears someone up or another dog so I'd also inform her of the PA Dangerous Dog law that WILL get her dog(s) taken away & put to sleep for that aggressive behavior once animal control gets a hold of her. She obviously knows her dogs are bad by muzzling them but further puts the public at risk by allowing them to run around off-leash. It's these types of pet owners that I find irresponsible & a nuisance to others.

Yeah, thanks for digging up that number. Personally, I love seeing animals in the park but it sounds like this lady is either wholly ignorant or gets a rush out of scaring the crap out of people. Why go to a public park to "interact" with others this way? I'll never understand some people... particularly morons and sadists.

Scary sounding dogs. This is why folks in rural Haiti carry machetes.
