I am going to talk to and hopefully meet with Dave Bower of FPC this week. I may discuss these trails passes with him. I am thinking of telling him that we will encourage all our members to purchase one of these if they ride in the Wissahickon. I'll tell him that we will also advertise this on our website so he should be happy about that...

maybe our membership could include a 5 dollar donation to FPC (AKA enough to get everyone a trailpass).

it mightbe good to just make it automatic so no one can ever say our members ride the park illegally.

also we should really work out a good easy system for our club to provide other riders a quick easy way to obtain a trail pass. i think way more people would have them if they made it easier to just sign up for one in the park or online.

i know the application says so but do we have confirmation that donated funds go directly back into Wissahickon and Pennypack? I usually give above the recommended minimum and will continue to do so as long as the money goes back into the parks. If not I'd rather use it for our club or the FOW or some other organization that will put it into the parks.

There was also a talk about getting these as well as IMBA memebership etc. as a package deal somehow with the PMBA membership, did that go anywhere?

I know I'm lazy and would rather pay once for one application to PMBA and get Wissa pass, IMBA membership etc in one swoop instead of submitting several diff forms...

I will talk this over with the other execs but the more I think about it, I think we should keep these separate. Since that is a minimum donation of $20, we shouldn't try to nickel and dime the FPC out of money. We strongly encourage all PMBA members to get this trail pass if you plan to use Wissahickon. We will leave that up to each member rather than force everyone to do it...  just my opinion right now...

there is a link below the field where you type your message that says 'Additional Options' when you click that you'll see the controls for the attachment.

unfortunately the max attachment size is 128KB so i can't add the permit form so i'll post the link

I couldn't find it on their website...Is there a place to get the trail pass in person, or do you have to mail in the app and wait?

Yes, you have to mail it in and wait. Last year one day that had some rangers out at tables and were handing them out, I guess with a donation and filling out the form. They weren't enforcing though, just being pretty cool and educating people.

I was thinking we could approach the commission to see if we could give out the trail permits for anyone who joins PMBA and donates 2+ hours of volunteer trail work. But I also know they will want the money in hand.

From what I understand, even though it's just a donation, and even though only a small percentage of bikers actually get the permit, they still collect many thousands of dollars per year. They aren't getting money like this from any other user group and it's on of the reason they have been so supportive of biking in the park.

Perhaps we could collect the $20 donation for the permits and ask to split it with the commission as in the end it will all go into the trails anyway.

Many charities commission marketers to solicit donations for just pennies on the dollar for the simple reason that a small percentage of something is more than 100% of nothing. We could say to the commission, look, we can sign up another 100 permit users per year...

Or say, $100 to PMBA gets you:

Gold PMBA membership with T shirt
IMBA Membership with socks
Basic FOW membership
& Trail Permit

I know at least Dave at FOW seemed open to combining memberships for discount. Their basic membership is $45, same as our Gold.

But I think we need to take into account family and junior memberships too. So it might not be worth the effort. At the very least we could consider making the Trail Permit more prominent on our site.

just ideas

I'm all for one-payment package deals with PMBA, IMBA, FoW and a trail pass.  However, package deals shouldn't be the only option for joining.
