Dave - we were looking for the checklist that you used last year for planning. Do you still have it? If so, can you post it here?

Is it possible to get sent a soft copy of the flyers? I could print my own or circulate them through my address book.

Will a trail permit be required? Since I don't have one and have no faith in the city to get me one in time. Will there be a way to obtain one at registration?

You will be fine. We do recommend getting a permit when you have a chance.

Does anyone thing we should make a concerted effort to wear our PMBA colors to show to strength in numbers and as a sign of solidarity? Also, maybe we could raffle some PMBA T's off?

Ha! I went back to see where I got the original text for the front of the flyer, since I didn't think that I had written it. It arrived in the following email:
From: Lou Harris [mailto:louisjharris@comcast.net]
Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2008 5:00 PM
To: Jon Pearce
Subject: RE: RiV text
So the Circle of Blame widens!
I will, however, take the blame for the comma in the website link.

OK, I will take the blame for that, but I did that last year and somehow it was correct on last year's flyer? Oh well, who gives a shit!?!?!!?
Maddog, great idea on the T-shirts. We are going to raffle off whatever of the 50 shirts we have left after we give them to the volunteers.

www.mtbr.com
in the PA section of the site.
Cool?

I would think there would be a booth for permits at RiTV, no? Wouldn't this make sense and help promote support of the trailsystem?

Not to go off subject, but has anyone been contacted about the 2008 trail passes yet? Thought the new ones were due out in March-ish?

Rico, yes please do it! We should have done that sooner. Thanks for thinking of this.
Pete, good idea. This is a FPC program and we should promote it. However the main focus of the Rally is to promote PMBA, tell our story, raise funds for the trails, through donations to FOW and our trail programs.
We are paying FPC $1000 for this priveledge.
I would love for them to come set up a table and have permit forms and all that. Maybe we should do this? Any volunteers to handle this? Anyone, anyone? Bueller?
Chuck, just like many other FPC programs, this is half-assed, not easy to figure out, not publicized, and entirely not enforced. This is due to multiple factors: poor policy/bad idea for program, lack of funding to run poor program, incompetence, red-tape, etc...

If FPC wants to man and do it, I don't see why not. But it may be confusing for people on the day of the ride.
If we promote permits for them though I think we should have an agreement to receive some of the money directly for our projects. It would work because we'd be saying to them, "Hey, we're going to bring extra donations and new permit users, therefore we want some allocation of the money on our workdays".
But frankly we just haven't gotten to that level of a relationship yet to discuss this with them. The permits are really free, but with "$20 suggested donation". They don't have the manpower to enforce them, but one of the reasons the FPC has been open to MTB riders is that they make a ton of money on the few riders who actually do get permits. And I mean a ton of money, and certainly more than any other single usergroup (which give them nothing.)
We've been floating the idea with David Dannenberg that people could pay a $100 donation that would give them Bronze PMBA memberships, (therefore IMBA membership), Basic FOW membership, and a FPC trail pass. But so far it's just been to early to formalize anything and figure out the logistics of how it would work.
Really though, with the man-hours and money we have been spending, which directly offsets cost for the FPC, I think they should allow us to give our members the trail permits for free.
I'm not sure what to suggest for now, but they have not approached us about it, so I say sometime in the near future we come up with a plan and take the initiative.

It was really cool getting to meet a bunch of you guys last night. Thanks for making me feel welcome. Looking forward to the next meeting and spreading the word about the RiV on our website, and the local shops and Gyms.
