Just moved here with my Specialized FSR.  Live in Huntindon Valley (on a golf course if you want to play), work in Trevose.  Will travel for a good trail or urban ride.  Any suggestions?  Anyone want to ride?

So many trails listed on the internet it is hard to know what are legit or gravel horse trails for beginners.

Needs to be evenings or anytime on the weekends.  Thanks.  JT

There are several group rides listed on the front page. Come out to any one of those and the guys will show you the trails in Wissahickon

Welcome Jefft,

I got a couple of friends that live along the course there too; would love to play it one day, but my golf ability is beyond sad.

There are a lot of great trails around here. Pennypack is probably closest to you, and yes, there are some more boring horse trials, but there are miles of great single track there too  if you can find it. Pennypack isn't quite as exciting as the Wiss, but well worth a visit.

And your close to Neshaminy (behind the highschool) where they pack about 6 miles of trails full of everything into one square mile on the side of mini mountain.

Plus you got Ralph Stover within 40 minutes and a variety of other places. It's hard to go wrong in this area, but would be good to check out some of these places with people that know them.

Other parks include Bear Creek, French Creek, Blue Marsh, White Clay/Middlerun/Fairhill. Mercer County park is pretty flat but again, with a guide, you can find some great stuff. There's many other places too.

I lead a ride at 6:30 on wednesdays if you want to meet at Valley Green in the wissahickon.  I'd love to show you around since by lead I mean I ride and occasionally a friend tags along.  Now that the weather is nicer we should be able to get a little more of a group together.

I ride many afternoons in the Wissahickon, and some of my friends do Pennypack (5 minutes away from you). We do a group ride Thursday around 4:30 in the Wissy from my house. We also go to various places in the area on Sundays to mix it up.

Hey Jeff,

Welcome aboard.  Ditto to what everyone else said.  The closest to you would be PennyPack park.  A good place to start there is the entrance on Pine Road.  If you are coming out of the parking lot on your bike you can make a left up a slight incline for one trail entrance.   Also if you make a left onto the sidewalk go over the bridge and immediately on your right you can enter before the gate or at the gate.  Either way there is some good singletrack there.

Also try one of the weekly rides at the Wiss that are mentioned above.

The other places mentioned are great as well (Mercer County Park, White clay, Middle Run, Neshaminy, etc.)

Thanks for the feedback!

The Wed. evening ride will work some weeks.  I will check the site for all weekend rides too.  I know where P Pack is, right near my office in Neshaminy.  I will check out a map for Wiss. next.  If anyone is going out, individually or as a group, feel free to call/email (comes to the berry).

As for the golf, the offer stands.  If you want a serious round with the small white ball I am not your guy.  Fairly intense/competitive on my bike, but surely not on the course.

Going to try Keswick Cycle Company in Glenside for a tune up and couple other things.  Any suggestions here for my FSR (stolen twice!!!)

Hey Jeff...I'll take you up on a round with the small white ball!  I love golf.

For shops there is also Guy's Bikes on Street Road in Trevose and Abington Wheel Wright by the corner of 611 and Susquehanna in, of course, Abington.

I live about 5 minutes from the Keswick Cycle shop in Glenside.

Do either of those shops sell Specialized (so that they carry their parts).

Anyone want to ride near 232 and 63 tomorrow evening?  Friday evening?

Anywhere this weekend?

Keswick Cycle is a big specialized dealer, I take my epic there for them to work on it, when it's something I can't do.

Rico we might be neighbors, i'm only a couple minutes from Keswick.

Yes, Keswick Cycle sells Specialized, Cannondale, Raliegh, and another brand I believe.

I am not sure about Abington, I've only been in there for parts and to drop off PMBA flyers....great guys in there though.
