There are ride arounds for most of the parts of the skill part. The hard stuff for the most part.

We'll rde this at the pace of the slowest rider, or we'll split up if we get a large group.  This is a great place for an intro rider - the loops are pretty short, there are few rocks, no large killer climbs - just a nice area to ride.  The skills area only occupies part of the trail - you can walk around it except for the large planked beginning which you can walk instead of riding it.  Assuming good weather, this will be a great ride for everyone.

This trip is this coming Sunday.  Assuming good weather we should have a great ride for all levels of bikers.  At this point (Tuesday) the weather is a little uncertain, so check this message thread later in the week for any changes.  Hope to see a big turnout for this great biking area.

Where can I find an exact map of where everyone is meeting? I click on the link and it shows the whole United States. I'm 50 50 on if I'm going to go.

Check this here and look at the satellite image. You can see the entrance to the gravel rd follows off Possum Hollow Rd, I think the entrance is right across from a Korean church.

I moved that link over to the event desription so it's easier to find. Click on the text that says "map to parking area" For some reason I cannot edit the other links so it just keep going to us map. Oh well.

It's less than an hour from philly...of course that depends on how fast you drive.

What a great ride!  Riggs guided about a dozen riders through parts of Middle Run that we had never seen.  After lunch we headed over to the Skills Park at White Clay.  Unfortunately the thunderstorm, which we had avoided all day, hit just as we arrived and we ended up racing the rain back to the parking lot.  Pictures are at http://picasaweb.google.com/jpearce08055/MiddleRun72708

That was fun. Too bad the rain cut us short a little, but cruising thru a thunderstorm with thunder and lighting and branches falling around us was an experience. Couldn't even see where you were going. Along with Jeremy's bloody crash we had it all. Good times.

Yeah, it got so dark that I couldn't see the trail with the amber lenses in my sunglasses.  And I couldn't take them off because it was raining too hard.  I lucked out when I found an exit from the trail onto the access road, rode across the grass back to the car and saved about 5 minutes of riding in the rain.  There was some serious lightning out there too.

glad all worked out well aside from the rain, which ended being interesting - nothing like hearing loud lightning claps in the trees. The rain was coming down hard!!!
Good parking area, fun to lounge around for lunch. The trails were in great shape and fast. Peeling down the hills was excellent. riding the log piles up top near the water tower was a blast. I really enjoyed showing everyone around, good riding, fun to ride in a pack. Another notable PMBA event, imagine if we did that whole place. Next time no problem.. thanks heidi tom j pierce & friend chuck kelly borey imbas 'pin of valor' jeremy & wife

We're going again!  Another Middle Run/White Clay ride this coming weekend - Saturday 10/11 assuming decent weather, Sunday would be the rain date.  Riggs is coming to lead the ride - he knows all of the great places in the park.  Read the rest of this message thread for details and directions.  Bring someting to eat for lunch - we'll probably ride Middle Run in the AM, then have lunch and ride White Clay in the afternoon.  Meet at 10:30, wheels out at 11.

Oh man! out of all the weekends.  My fiance and I have been wanting to ride Middle Run and White Clay, but this Saturday is not good for us.

Jon, how often do you ride there?  And where can I find out info about the parks if we decide to go on our own one of these days?  We'd rather jump on with a group but this Saturday is no good since we'll be up in Albany, NY.

Well, I picked Saturday but the current forecast is for rain so we might have to go on Sunday or bag it altogether.  I'll make the call later in the week when the forecast should be a little more accurate.  I get down there 2-3 times a year - not often enough for a great park like that.  If you go alone, you'll find the trails are reasonably well marked.  If you stay on the Lenape trail you'll probably be OK.  There's lots of other stuff down there that I hadn't ridden until Riggs ledd the ride last time, so it's definitely worthwhile going with a guide who know the area.  This might be the last ride this year unless we get some warm fall days.

Thanks for the map man its great!  I really appreciate it.  I was just talking to my lady, and we are really considering going down on Saturday the 18th.  Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Where would you recommend parking?  I want to do a solid loop, but also hit the Skills Trail.  We both want to check that area out.

Yeah, and on the MeetUp site too.  I was waiting for a weather forecast - from today's 5-day it looks like Sunday will be the better day.  How's Sunday for everyone?  Unless there's some serious objection I'll post it for Sunday on the event list and MeetUp by the end of today (Tuesday).

Great map of the trails at Middle Run by Ken Cox

And here are skills course pictures start to finish:

From Jon's meetup post:
These areas are located outside of Newark , DE and are accessible from the same parking area. Middle Run is a relatively flat wooded areas with few rocks and lots of flowing trails. It's a great area for entry-level riders, as well as more experienced bikers. White Clay is similar, but has a great skills area built by the Delaware Trailspinners with ramps, see-saws and dropoffs (you can easily walk around them if you don't want to ride them). It's a favorite area for all levels of bikers.
Meet up at 10:30; wheels out at 11. Bring some lunch. We'll ride Middle Run in the AM, then eat and ride White Clay in the afternoon. Total mileage may be about 15 miles, split between the two areas. If you don't want to ride that far, come for the Middle Run section.

This is a good area for group rides. The terrains varies a great deal, is windy and the hills tend to be more gradual, meaning not as steep as say the Wiss.  There are open fields.  There are some 'surprise' sections where you dip into a steep area quickly, then climb as steep as you came in.  Trails have been notched out of hillsides. You can keep on moving and get into a good pace without stopping for as long as you can take it.  20 miles is not uncommon if you have the legs and the time.  Here's a good description:  Cross-country terrain with the extremes kept to a minimum.
The White Clay - Middle Run area is praised by beginners and experts alike for its 'flow' characteristics. It is fun.

Great - you'll love the place.  It's different riding from Wiss - less hilly and rocky - more flow.  It's somewhat like the Demo 1 trail.  One difference is that there aren't easy bailout points like ther
