Are there organized rides on the weekends or does everyone pretty much do their own thing? I think I'll have time Sunday this week to get in my first ride of the season and Im sure my wife would feel better about me having a first ride if I was with others
Also, where does everyone park at Wiss? Ive read bad htings about parking at Valley Green, would Livezy make more sense to park at (if you can park there). I am coming from Merion Station.

There will definately be Sunday rides, kitchens lane is a good place to park because there is a bridge near there if you need to cross-over quickly, parking depends upon time of day and weather of course.
What kind of bike are you riding? How long have you been ridin the trail of the Wiss?

You will not have any security issues at Valley Green lots, especially on the weekend. The lot up Valley Green road towards Chestnut Hill has had some break ins, but you won't be able to access that coming from Rox side. Definitely don't park on Bells Mills Rd lots. You won't have any problems at Livezy Lane (Pavillion), Wigard Ave, Janette St. or bottom of Gorgas Lane, all of which are on the Rox side.
I ride in the Wiss all week so I go elsewhere on the weekends. The Wiss can get crowded on weekends also. But there is always a bunch of people riding...

Northwestern Ave is also a pretty safe place to park due to it being in a neighborhood and being heavily travelled. I've never had a problem there. My car was broken into in the upper Valley Green lots, so I personally stay away from there like it's the plague. Northwestern gets crowded on the weekends, but you can usually find a spot up the hill on Thomas Rd if Northwestern is full.
Have fun!

I have no idea where anything is, I'll have to map out directions and figure out where these parking locations are.
I ride an Intense Tazer hardtail, currently setup similar to my last dual slalom hardtail as that was what I was comfortable with. Its a bit hefty for a hardtail but the frame is most of that heft, the bike weighs in at 30lbs.
I have never ridden on this side of the delaware except in races at Bear Creek and out at PSU. Ive heard nothing but good things about Wiss so im psyched and all the pics Ive seen make the place look like it'll be a ton of fun to get to know.

Are there trail entrances at these locations? Also, I have a very good sense of direction but are there actual trail maps? The map on the front page looks like last years Rally map, are there maps that spell out where Demo 1 and all the other trail names I keep reading are?

Corner of Roxborough Ave and Magdalena Street is a good place to park. It's sort of an unknown and safe because it's in a neighborhood. It'll take you through the golf course and you have 2 access points to the trail. That's where I usually jump onto the trails because it's a quick ride from my house.
You also have Hermit Lane off of Henry Ave, close to the bowl.
VGI puts right in the middle of the park and you're climbing to the trails along the rim of the park. It all depends on where you're coming from and what you want to ride.
In all honesty, the best way to do the trails are to just explore and hook up with other riders from here. My hours of work prevent me from joining many group rides. The most excitement I've had is exploring on my own and the shear excitement of discovering (still in progress) all the Wiss has to offer.
Rule of Thumb, you can't get loss in Wissahickon as long as you know where VGI and Forbidden drive is located. If you feel lost, head down to Forbidden drive (right in the middle of the valley) and ride it back to VGI.

Im going to try and get out at 9am this weekend, next weekend I'll likely be able to be a bit more flexible.

Thats what we did back in school, we used to ride from Boston to Somerville to hit a spot near tufts and we took regional rail to a couple other spots. It was quite fun to not only have to remember how we got to the trails but also how to get back to where we started so we could get home. I'll do some exploring and definitely remember VGI and Forbidden, thanks.

Looks like my Sunday ride will actually happen, hopefully the rain will end tomorrow or early saturday and dry up by Sunday morning. I am going to park near Livezey Pavilion, so that'll be my starting point. If anyone is interested in ride with a newb to Wiss, let me know. I plan on getting out by around 9-915.

There is a stop light at Livezey st, there are a few baseball fields. I'll be there around 9 but its not looking good as far as rain. if its raining I'll be in bed still.

I have a group of about five going tomorrow afternoon. It looks pretty solid that it will rain tonight so it'll be later probably before we ride but definitely will ride if trails aren't slop. Polst if you want to meet up. We'll probably start at Livezy or Valley Green.
