I went out at 430 and rode until 6.  it was not crunchy ridable snow.  it was difficult to gain traction and uphills were a no-go. even the downhills were slow.

when i went home, I think the snow was getting to where it needed to be for a snow ride.  tomorrow am early should be nice.  after 6pm then.

studded would not have helped much...in my opinion.  maybe today will be different...

BUT!!!!...my reg thurs nite crew rode at valley forge betzwood last night at 445-6ish and said the trails were a blast.  fast ...and they stayed on top of the crunchy snow.

yeah last night the snow seemed to set up like concrete...

i bet this weekend is some good riding.

other than occasional icepatches i would say the studs are overkill tom. but then every snow is a little different and i haven't tried to ride this stuff yet.

non of you have monday off for a big ride? if the snow is hard and fast it should be a REALLY nice day. (posted over in General Discussion in case you haven't seen it yet).

just got back from a hike in Wissahickon and the trails are not very ridable. They are hard on the surface but hollow underneath and bike would just break through surface ice and it will suck. I actually saw my buddy Joe riding and he said it sucked and was not worth it. SO I made right decision and got an awesome workout on a hike. Trails may not be worthy for a while, unfortunately  Cry
