I'm normally one to stay on the main trails etc.  But during todays cruising, I noticed the short trail from the pavillion down towards gorgas under the bridge.  Bermed, maintained log crossings...etc.  Someone spent some time on it. Whats the PMBA/FOW stance on this one?  Open for riding?  Illegal?  Somewhere in between?

That is a legit trail. It is part of the Yellow trail, but it was blocked off for years because some big trees were down blocking it. Well, some local trail keepers went out there and finally re-opened the trail and made some "enhancements" using the natural resources to make some challenging features to make it more fun. Have at it and enjoy! But know that it is a work in progress and will be improving over time.

The thinking is that the existing main trail, which goes down that ravine, is unsustainable and keeps getting deeper from erosion. Opening the other trail back up provides some relief for that trail by taking some traffic off of it. I ride the re-opened trail 90% of the time now. The main trail will be closed in time as part of the FOW Sustainable Trails Initiative, and the route will be the one we are talking about, but the entire route will be new in the future... The trail keepers are getting a head start  Grin

Sweet, good job.   I like it a bunch.

I was going to say, while it doesn't appear to be 100%, it's better than the other one.  Bottom is steep going up for the SS, but I only tried it once, have to give it a go again.

Yeah, that is an interesting trail,  although isn't that long, does seem to have its own kinda persona. It is a great trail to start your ride, makes leaving from the pavilion a pleasure, especially on a night ride, but in the day its sweet to hit that log with some speed and follow up going through a nice snake-y rush of turns into the main trail, defiantly has character.
