I copied this info from the FOW email I receive from Kevin Groves for anyone who needed additional information. Figured I'd do this before our Union Reps start trouble.....
Grounds Maintenance at the Tree House
January 12, 2008
10 am to 3 pm
Wissahickon Environmental Center
300 Northwestern Ave
http://www.fow.org/volproj.php#workday
Please help maintain the beautiful grounds at the Wissahickon Environmental Center (a.k.a. the Tree House)
http://www.fairmountpark.org/WissahickonEC.asp
. We will perform mostly hand maintenance on the Central Loop of the Andorra trail system. Time permitting, additional projects may include planting trees and invasive weed removal. Most work will be light, with the option of more physically challenging tasks for the adventurous. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Directions
From Ridge Ave/Pike, turn onto Northwestern Ave (if you are heading north turn right, if you are heading south turn left). Follow Northwestern Ave until you reach the parking lot on your right (P-1 on the FOW Map). From there follow the yellow volunteer signs along the trail until you get to the Tree House.
From Germantown Ave/Pike, turn onto Northwestern Ave (if you are heading north turn left, if you are heading south turn right). Follow Northwestern Ave until it dead ends at Forbidden Drive, and take the gravel driveway uphill until you reach the parking lot (P-2 on the FOW Map). Alternatively, you can park along Northwestern Ave and walk up the driveway.
Trail Restoration Along the Yellow Trail
January 26, 2008
10 am to 3 pm
Yellow Trail Between Jannette and Gorgas
The Philly Mountain Biking Association (
www.phillymtb.com
) leads a day of maintenance along the Yellow Trail between Jannette Street and Gorgas Lane. Various areas along the trail are in need of de-berming and regrading. Additionally, we will revisit the re-route built in December near Gorgas Lane to make improvements.
Directions
Meet where Jannette Street skirts along the edge of the park at the gated entrance below the Henry Avenue bridge (this is NOT the bridge that goes over Gorgas Lane).
Please arrive by 10 am as we will be splitting up into groups and hiking to different areas along the trail!
By Foot/Bicycle:
The meeting spot can be reached by hiking or biking on the Yellow Trail toward Jannette Street, or from Forbidden Drive by turning up the fire road near the 4 mile marker (the Yellow FOW Volunteer signs will mark this turn off).
By Car:
Heading North on Henry Ave make a left onto Monastery Ave at the light before the bridge. Then make a quick right onto Jannette Street.
Heading South on Henry Ave make a right onto Monastery Ave at the light immediately after the bridge. Then make a quick right onto Jannette Street.
Parking: Parking is available along Jannette Street and other side streets in the area.
