It's been pouring all night so the work day is canceled. Just not safe to work in these conditions with sharp tools and machinery. Stay tuned for more updates.

Too bad, but it was obviously the right choice.  I'm eager to get out on Tuesday night to see how the other TM projects have fared after this rain - particularly Gorgas Lane, which was always a mudhole after a major rainstorm.  Hopefully we'll be congratulating ourselves on the good job that we did.

Yesterdays work was very impressive, and I wanted to give many thanks to all who came out. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated and hard working trail crew. From all the leaders we can't thank you enough. I'm still buzzing from yesterday.

We had new record 64 volunteers in a single work day! Not sure of total hours worked yet...Dmitri?

Lots was accomplished yesterday and it looks like we can call the Gorgas reroute complete (except for some minor tweaking as needed) and move on to the next project.

Signup sheets added up to 63 people, plus Kevin Groves, who technically isn't a volunteer, but puts in his lion share of hard work!

The hours added up to massive 291.5 volunteer hours!!! That's a records since I've been keeping track. The only time we came close to that number was back in September of '07 when we had 255 hours.

We had 17 Temple studets. Thank you very much for coming out and helping out!

We had 29 PMBA members.

And many more volunteers from other organizations like FOW, Wissahickon Wonderers as well as just concerned dedicated neighborhood volunteers.

I would like to echo Tom's thanks, and appreciation!!!

The re-route is effectively done. However, Dave D., Dan Mercer and myself walked the site after everyone left and we looked at the hill above our re-route. Let me just tell you, I think I talked Dave into not using the middle terrace and not loosing the elevation and what we saw is promissing to be a really sweet singletrak!!!!

PS Pictures are already up, thanks to our dedicated infatiguable photographer and historian, Jon Pearce!  http://picasaweb.google.com/jpearce08055/TrailMaint32208

Here's a kinda cool panorama shot of the Gorgas reroute.  Not perfect - the exposures are a little off and the touching-up is a bit sloppy, but you can see the whole trail.  I'd love to annotate all of the features if someone wants to mark it up.

Jon,

You said it all in over 1000 words ---The picture is awsome, you can see the two halves exposure, but who cares , just the reference point the shots were taken from is an exciting veiw!  I want this panoramic hanging on my wall!!

There are actually 6 shots that Photoshop weaved together to make that one.  Unfortunately I twisted the camera for the highest-uphill ones so the trees were in pointing in the wrong direction and I needed to move them.  I'll go shoot it again when I have a chance, and will lock the exposure so it all looks the same.  I can probably do something similar for the stream-crossing reroute but not for the Kitchen's Lane project since there's no vantage point where you can see all of it at once.  I'll also try to get the golf course hill before we start messing around with it.

Awesome. I had a great time working with everyone on that trail. Good times for sure. Many words exchanged, sometimes in disagree, mosty just possitive vibes. I see sweat and blood, working from sunup to sunset in ice and mud. Beautiful.

Yeah Tom, er..uh. I mean Lust... That trail is something to be proud of, it didn't get done because we were soaking our hands in Palmolive!!
