There's going to be our regular group heading out at 5:30 from VG; all are welcome. Slow intermediate pace, but we won't drop beginners either.

Fish, feel free to loop back and join us if you don't find anyone.

I'll be going with Jess at 5:30 - at a much slower pace than the freeride guys.  We usually have about 6-8 riders in our group and everyone is welcome.

Is the 5:30 ride gonna continue into a night ride?  I was planning on riding around 4-5 today, but I don't have lights.  Haven't rode since October, so the slow pace would be welcome.

There may be one or two with lights carrying on, but most will probably bail back to the parking lot within 90 minutes. It gets dark around 7pm.

Anyone riding tonight? I have a meeting to attend and no bike! But let me know if you are going.

My one friend Mike would like to ride but he only 15. His parents will drop him and pick him and he has plenty of experience with the Wiss. But he can't be riding alone. So let me know if you are coming and can chaperon.

As of right now we've had some rain a few hours ago abut I don't think it was enough to cancel the ride. It's still looking 'rainy' but it's looked like that all day, and if it holds off it will be fine.

I am going to Manayunk brew pub with Jeff P at 5:30 to have a beverage and something to eat and sit in the sun.  Then around 6:30 or 7 we are riding.  If anyone wants to join call me 610.659.3989.  Brad

Hey guys,

First I want to say the Rally last week was great.  My fiance and I had a blast.  I met Jesse there (I believe it is the same Jesse who hosts tonights ride) and learned a lot about PMBA.  I haven't been riding too long, but I've been riding trails in the Wiss for the last couple of weeks since the weather has been awesome and now I want to meet some more riders.  You may have seen me on the trails, I'm the guy usually riding by myself but occasionally with my fiance.  I ride a forrest green K2.

I'm posting because I know tonights ride is for all-levels, but I'm still a little weary about if I would consider myself a beginner or intermediate (I'm somewhere in-between there).  So I was just wondering if today's ride is typically for advanced riders or if a newbie like me can keep up.

Some riders on the trails smoke by me, so as you can imagine it can be intimidating.

I remember you dude. come on out for the ride.

This is not a total-beginner-first-timers instructional ride, but compared to other PMBA rides it's slow. We are all familiar with the experience of not keeping up and feeling like we're slowing others down (well most of us are). But this is a 'no drop' ride so most of the group will be having a break at the top of each major climb waiting for the others to catch. If some speedsters get antsy they may break off into another group.

No matter what though someone will wait for you, and if you're super dooper slow I'll loop back every now and then to see how you're doing. You don't' have to try and kill yourself to keep up. My guess is though you'll do just fine, especially if you've seen the Wiss already and know what you're getting into.

Thanks man I really appreciate it.  I'm hoping I'll be able to hold my own. I've gotten use to many of the climbs on trails, the only ones that kill me are the climbs from Forbidden up into the trails.

I'm really looking forward to riding today.  I'm eager to meet other riders who are addicted to this like I've become.

Dan, although you're probably on the ride already w/Jesse.. it's a good ride to get in on! I'm hoping to be back out again for one of his rides next Thursday.

yeah rob, we missed you! Dan did well, specially as he's yet to try clipless pedals and such. And for many of the regulars the ride has become a much more solid 'intermediate' or should I say, 'advanced intermediate' level.

Dan, there wasn't one rider with us who didn't have less than 5 years experience. In fact, I was the least experienced of the lot. (Save Mike, but he's 15 and doesn't count as a real person).

We're going to make some changes(Especially in light of what happened in Neils group ride tonight) though because I know it must have been overwhelming as your first group ride.  My first rides were tough, but at least I had a couple others at my pace. If we can get more beginner/advanced-beginner types out I think that will help.

Rob, I saw the other Dan last week but what happened to that other dude who showed up? This Dan and he would be well matched.

If you like, and can make it out during other nights, let me know and we can just go out with one or two others, say, on Mon or Tues.

sOoon Jesse.. Sooon!!  Wink

The other rider I brought out before, John, hasn't been out much. Either work or base diving (yeah he's a jumper) is in his sites right now. That's awesome DannyC21 did great!

I'm actually toying with the idea of scheduling a beginners type ride between PMBA beginners & the meet-up group beginners on the Wiss some weekend morning. Although I generally don't like hitting the Wiss at 10-11am on a Saturday/Sunday with the crowds, I think it'll help grab more bikers out to the weekly rides once they feel comfortable. Besides, I can always arrive earlier & do my loop(s) before starting the beginners out.
Once I figure out what's happening with babywatch'08 I'll try to get something together.

I had a great time yesterday Jesse.  Thanks for staying with me and giving me some really helpful advice.  I really appreciate it.

It would be great to meet up with a couple of riders at my level.  I don't want hold other riders up on the weekly rides because of my inexperience.  I'm going to make it a point to come out every Thursday night.  I plan to come into work early on Thursdays in order to leave early enough to make it (like I did yesterday).  Even though it was a tough ride I learned and gained a lot from it.  I'm definitely going to look into learning clipless pedals.  That has been my biggest problem on some hills is losing my grip on my feet.

Once my grad classes end next week, I'll be able to ride every Tuesday night as well if a small group of beginners wants to get together.  My normal rides the last few weeks have been on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the weekend.  I've been trying to ride as much as I can to get better at this (and because I love the rush).  Other than Tuesday and Thursday I can't get to the park until after 6, thats why I usually ride by myself.

Thanks again for the support guys.  I look forward to joining more rides.

Yeah, I definitely be up for a beginner ride, as I have only been MTBing for a year and still consider myself a beginner.

My problem is that I work in the city and commute by train.  I have a hard time getting out to the rides by the specified times.  Hopefully there may be some later rides as the sun stays out longer.

Rob, if you do any weekend rides and don't want to do a morning ride at the Wiss, there is always other places.  Middle Run is always fun and Penny Pack is no where near as crowded as the Wiss.

Hey Danny, as you can see from my previous post, I am probably the same experience level as you.  I would definitely be up for riding with you.

Hey Rico that sounds great.  Yea, I have only been riding for a few months and I am still pretty new to trail riding.  I normally ride Demo 1 to Gorgas when I'm by myself, so last nights ride with Jesse was the longest I have done on the trails since starting.  I would definitely like to meet up and ride with you.

Fortunatly for me, I live on Henry Ave and I ride to the park (this is how I became interested in the sport).  My schedule is pretty tight for the next few days because my grad classes end this coming week and I have a lot of stuff due, but let me know whats best for your schedule and we can meet up.  It is easy for me to get to the park so just let me know when you can get out of the city to ride.

A friend and I are going to Neshaminy on Sunday of you want to join us.

For the weekday rides, maybe I'll throw the bike and a change of clothes in the back of my SUV and take the train from Chestnut Hill, which means I could make it to one of those rides easier.

I'd love to join you guys on Sunday, but with a final paper due Monday night and a final paper and presentation due Tuesday night, Sunday becomes crunch time (biking has seriously made me procrastinate these last couple of weeks).

I'm good to ride Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Next weekend I'll be away, but after that I will have nights and weekends to ride as I please.
