We are going camping at Mauch Chunk Lake park in a couple of weeks.  Does anyone know if there is any single track there (or close by)?

Hey Jeremy:

Right across the street from the entrance to MCL (*not* on the same side as the lake) there's part of the Railroad switchback, which if you follow for ~3 miles (smooth gravelly boring path) will lead you towards "Mt. Pisgah". If you take that trail up until it seems to start going downhill again (there will be a big concrete wall/foundation with a bit of a view), you can take the steep trail up to your left which will lead you to some neat little trail sections and the moto trails. Depending on where you go the trails can get pretty technical with some hike-a-bike so I would bring intermediate+ riders. Kinda fun to explore back there, but be careful you can get lost really, really easily due to all of the ravines that redirect you. If you're willing to drive 5-10 minutes from MCL you can hit-up Broad Mountain. Do a search on MTBR in the Pennsylvania forum for details on these and other trails.

There used to be lots of riding up there. Not too much anymore.  Do yourself a favor and stop by Blue Mtn Sports in Jim Thorpe and by the trail guide for $9.00 (+/-).  Most of the trails in JT are closed down now for the hunters. Unfortunately, all the good stuff has been shut down which is on the same side the previous post mentions.  Some people say you can still ride it, but I would wear as much safety orange colored clothing as you can.

I have a copy of the book if you need more info.

I know a real nice loop from the Lake. You go up the hill on the switchback railroad all the way up to the little town, Summit Hill. Oh and buy some supplies at the Sunoco station right next to the trail. (It's good to dump a little cash in that town, ya know, a little support) Then you make 2 rights and head all the way up to the cemetary. It's a sweet view, you can see in all directions, and you are high in the hills and in a cemetary. Then I can't really explain the singletrak from there. There's too many turns and you need to know where you're going or you will end up in the wrong valley. But I never really saw any hunters on this ride. And I do this ride most any time of year. There are some cool tight sections where you are riding on a cliff over an abanonded coal mine that drops like 200 ft. IT's good to keep rolling through there  Shocked So anyway, I can show a group in person sometime, so let's pick a Saturday soon... The ride is about 12-15 miles of singletrak, with some nice ups and downs, mostly downs, as you rode all the way to the top on the rr line, remember? Any bike can make this ride, but those with 4" minimum suspension will enjoy it most. It's pretty rocky too...

They call it the "Coal Cracker".. remember we met a kid that lived in Jim Thorpe and he showed us this ride a few years back.. it is an Epic ride and has a good mix of everything.... OH YEA, and watch our for that "Wagon Road, It'll getcha" (as the old man we saw on the trail warned us)    We laughed at him and then I think 2 or 3 us went over the bars on it on the downhill.  No Shit.... When we goin?Huh??!!!!

That's right I remember that! OTBKING (Paul) went flying through  the air OTB, I was right behind him. I think I went down also on the Wagon Road. That's a knarly section...
