Anyone up for a Wed or Thur ride at say 5:30-6pm    If you have them, we may have to start bringing the lights along as it's getting dark earlier.

We should also setup a standing night ride soon..  They used to have one Thursday nights that left from the bike shop in Manayunk at 6pm..  we used to get at least 10 or more riders which was cool for a night ride...

Let's start with at least 1 regular weekly ride so people can plan for it.    I'm getting sick of riding solo !!!!  I'm willing to be a ride leader if we can get feedback on what nights are good for most people...  How does Thursday night sound?

suggestions...?

Thursday evening sounds good to me. Starting from Manayunk could be good as we can rally for food and beers afterwards  Grin

we got our regular Thursday ride as posted on the home page that been running for many years out of Valley Green. Right now it's at 5:30pm to take advantage of the light but we're riding with lights too, and most of the time we ride at 6pm. It's originally the PhillyFreeriders put together by Lisa Coyle, but a bunch of us our now PMBA too. There's a few other groups out there on Thursdays as well.

I know the snack bar used to open up at VG on Thursday nights too for drinks and food but I'm not sure they still do that.

Last winter we had a standing Wed night SS friendly ride, leaving VG around 6-ish.

Not sure if it will get going this winter again. I personally cannot do Wednesdays or Thursdays this winter, but would be more than happy to lead or organize rides on Mondays and/or Tuesdays

Why choose? Both!!!  Grin

I'm up for it!

So here are two more standing rides, Monday and Tuesday at 5:30 from stables on Northwestern, with a stop at VG at 6-6:15 to pick up anyone who wants to join in from there.

Can I have couple of people willing to commit to ride those days on a regular basis, in case I'm not able, so that the rides go on?

BTW, it's SS friendly, but also friendly to all other types of bikes and bikers!  Kiss

Considering that I can't ride Wed, Thurs and half Fridays, it's not too much. Tomorrow I can't.
But lets start with this Tuesday.

I'm in, starting in October (I'm still on 4-midnight shift until Oct 1).  I was planning on doing the gym thing a few nights a week after work to avoid the rush hour traffic, but I'll gladly substitute a bike ride twice a week.  I need to pick up some lights though.

I am interested in the tuesday ride, but the only thing is I am kind of new to the sport.  My only experience at the Wiss is the demo trail which I have done a few times.  Is this ride beginner friendly?  I am def. willing to push myself, but my legs are still battling those steep climbs.

I am only able to ride on tuesday's so if that ride is still going to go on I'll be in as long as you don't mind having a newbie.

Same boat here.  I do ride several shifts a week, but that's all urban riding on relatively level roadways (and down some steps here and there).  I'm still building muscle back since becoming a couch-potato after my summer2006 motorcycle accident.  I'll be with the slow group, especially on the hills.

Hey guys, I was waiting for Max to chime in regarding the pace and such. And hopefully he will soon. But I did want to say one thing for sure, before we know it, 6:00 will mean darkness and we will need lights to ride. Even now I carry the lights with me when heading out. Do you have lights?

The Wed ride at the Pavillion can sometimes be a faster pace. But that does not mean beginners are unwelcomed. One way to get faster is to ride with faster riders. It makes you push yourself, and we don't mind waiting.

Im trying to link up with a group for some lighted rides.  I dig the idea of the ss ride on tues or wed nights and just wanted to find out where and when the ride meets, who to look for, etc.  I have never ridden with lights before and am eager to try it out.
thanks...Nick

Mondays look for a tall ugly dude on a yellowish rigid 29er SS at stables on the northwesterna nd germantown around 5:30-ish.

Tuesdays look for the same dude with another tall ugly dude either on grey rigid 29er SS or red rigid 29er SS, same place, same time.  (except for this tuesday, I can't make it, but the other guy might still be there carrying the flag! )

If VG a little later is easier place, then let us know and we will make sure to swing by to pick anyone up!

On wed we meet at the pavillion by Livezy lane, next to the baseball feilds at 6 oclock. This week had three riders at a medium pace and we rode till about 8 which meant we used our lights. Soon it will be a night ride only. Problem is they lock the gate after a certain time, I think 8 or 9, so parking there may not work out.

Ok, I'll be there by 5:30, look for an... surprise... ugly tall guy on a yellowish rigid 29er SS.
But I forgot my light, go the battery, but not the light itself, d'oh! So it'll be fairly short ride for me.

dz

Edit, did you see Tom's instant message on the landing page about their group leaving at 5:15 from VG, if you can get there before 5:30, that would be good. I'll try to get there by 5:15.

We'll be out tonight leaving at 5:30 sharp from VG.  We may be off of the trails by dark, but you may need lights to get back up FD.

we've got 5 tonight for sure so come join us. I rode last night and it was getting dark by 6:40 and needed lights by 6:50. So you can still get a good ride in without but bring'em if you have 'em .

Nick,

Max and I have day off from work for Columbus day, so we will ride during the day. I might ride a little in the eveing, but i'd be slow and probably not going to go past the darkness, which is at 6:30 now days.
Tuesday is still on, if you want to ride on tuesday and take a little more rest.
