Check this out:

Nice bike. Dorky outfit, though - although it kinda looks like a PMBA shirt without the logo.

Can you believe that dude? Trying to style himself after me; complete with belly.
is Lyme's disease found with a blood test? After all these years and achy joints I wanna make sure I don't have it.

Eh? "Complete with belly?" The guy has 16% body fat, if you read the article. Not bad for 61 years old. He must be wearing a bullet-proof vest under that "jersey". That's why he looks like Jess.
There was another discussion about Lymes' disease, under "Wednesday rides", I think. I haven't had it, but it's much more severe than achy joints.

trust me, if you've had lyme disease for years untreated you'd know it. it would be unlikely that you could stand up.
ha, i like this quote ""It was a rash," Stanzel said. "It's not uncommon for the president to have tick bites when he's out biking.""
well then maybe the prez should apply some bug spray once in a while.

The one thing that is clear about Lyme's disease is that there's nothing clear about Lyme's disease. My best friend lost all her hearing in one ear this past year and the doctor's can't find any reason for it except that her blood still showed Lyme's disease markers 8 years after being diagnosed and treated.
I've spend more time in the Wiss than most over the past 15 years, from walking the dogs to hiking and biking. I've taken over 100 ticks off the dogs, though most of the ones I could see or find were bigger than deer ticks. One dog was found to have Lyme's disease a few years back and he is clear of it now. He's lost much of his site, but that is probably old age.
Yahoo health says in the early stages: "As many as 25% have only flulike symptoms (no rash) or have no symptoms at all. "
Newsweek just ran this article
; it seems not even the doctors agree on Lyme's disease. They mention: "roughly 20,000 cases diagnosed each year and more undetected".
As far as the later stage symptoms well, I've have a good portion of them, but coincidentally they are similar symptoms to being overweight and getting old!. I hope that is all it is, but if there is ever a chance of having it and not knowing it, then I'm that chance. We don't think twice about checking our pets for Lyme's, so we probably shouldn't think twice about checking ourselves.

Well, I just came off a month of Doxycycline after a target-shaped rash appeared on my stomach after a ride at Wiss. Hopefully that killed off any of those little Lymes' critters that might have infested my bloodstream.

i can whole heartedly agree with that yahoo health quote. i didn't have any rash as a result of my bite nor did i ever find the tick but i sure as hell had it.
john, as long as it was caught in time you should be a-ok.

Ok. WTF. I've got a red mark (appeared suddenly) on my arm that's kinda like an oval. Is this a symptom? Maybe I better go get checked out.

Well, the classic sign is a target (red middle, white circle, red outer circle) shaped mark. I have a picture of the one on my stomach, but it would gross everyone out if I posted it. From what I read, you want to start on antibiotics within a couple of days, so get over to the doc ASAP.

actually, one problem with lyme is that it will not show up on a test until it's been in your system for about a month. i screwed up and had the bloodwork done the day after the doctor prescribed it although he told me to wait a few weeks and the first test was negative. i then went back about 4 weeks later and it was positive.
moral of the store is just because a test is negative doesn't mean you don't have lyme disease.

Damit. My blood is getting tested right now. I went today. They said it would take a week for results.

Maybe we can get a PMBA discount on Lyme's tests - and Doxycycline. Any primary care docs out there who mountain bike and want some new patients?

Bummer. Get on the antibiotics - quickly - although I assume that you've already done that. At least the generic drugs are pretty cheap. Doesn't sound like you've got any symptoms yet, so maybe you can kill it before you start feeling bad.

I was mis-diagnosed by three doctors 8 years ago, the all assumed I had shingles, well it turned out to be Lyme disease, 3 days later I went from having basic flue symptoms to having severe chills and a 103 temperature, my teeth were chattering even though I was wrapped in a blanket and it was mid July at 95 degree's outside, I had a giant 4 ring bulls eye on my back about 6 inches in diameter with a pure white center that was bubbling like blisters, and I walked around the room like I was 85 years old using all my strength to move. Wasn't the most pleasant experience, they had to inject the anti bodies directly into my bloodstream after I went back to the same doctor at the emergency room for two days. Thank you penacylin!!(sp)

I had it too. Not as bad as Krotee (he's so extreme!) but the little deer tick bit a very private area, which I had to show to the (male) doctor. However his assistant or intern was like 22 and hot and she had to inspect also.
ANyway, it was too late and I got violently ill the next day befofre the drugs could take hold. I was like a zombie. Seriously! I walked with my arms out in front of me. It hurt. But then the miracle drugs took charge and I was fine thge next day. I think I even rode taht next day. Just to spite the ticks...

I have'nt gotten sick at all. Just the mark on my arm that looked like a bruise. Thing is I don't bruise, at all. Doc looked at me like I was nutz. He says "that's a bruise". I assured him that it could not be a bruise.
He sounded pretty suprised when it came back positive and asked me again if I felt sick. The antibiotics are in my blood as we speak....er write.
