FIRST mountain bike

Ok everyone, I'm bored... What was your first mountain bike, and what year did you get it... Mine was a Schwinn Moab which I bought in Bloomsburg when I was in college in Spring of 1991. This baby was fully rigid, had 21 gears, foam grips, a cool ass white with black splatter paint job... Sucks I didn't take any pics... My 3 older bros where like "what is that thing?" The rest is history...

My first was a Trek 800 Antelope in Red. I got it at East Coast Ski and Adventure when I was like 14. It was a 21 speed, fully rigid and also sported the foam grips. I did at some point change them over to the purple Onza Porcu-Paws and of course Onza bar ends...
Man did I love that thing and I beat the piss out of it too. The funny thing is that my dad still rides that bike in the summer time!

I'm still waiting on that mystical day called gradgimation :/.
Believe it or not my first bike is the bike I'm riding now. Not to say that I learned to ride by riding mountain bikes (although there is some learning curve coming from motocross).
I'm currently riding a:
Large Gemini 800
Fox DHX shock
Fox Vanilla 36 x 160mm fork
Shimano Saint Brakes
Race Face shorty 50mm stem
Truvativ Hussafelt over sized bars
Truvativ Hussafelt crank
Stock Cannondale Rims (soon to be replaced, whenever they decided to fly apart)
XT shifters

AS soon as I layed eyes on Lous Trek, I bought a fully rigid Raleigh M50 in 1992. Upgraded it with a first generation Manitou fork with the elastomer suspension. I still have it if anyone wants to pay heavily for a piece of mountain bike history. I rode that thing up Killington Mtn then down and it was a blast . Nothing like bombing downhill with center pull brakes. I actually bought a suspension seatpost for that thing.

Dave I didn't get the Trek until 1994. I bought it from Mike when he got the VooDoo full suspension bike...

Going back many years... it was a black Raleigh 21-speed with riser bars and 2" of spring travel in the front! Rigid rear of course as back then suspension wasn't an option.
That was the best thing since sliced bread. I used to just bounce up and down to get my willies off cuz I was cool having the first suspension around.
It's now in bike heaven I am sure. if I saw anyone riding it I'd have to shoot myself.

I had a Huffy Mountain bike, but that does not count, as I was trying to do real mountain biking on it and I broke the frame. This was about 92. I then got a Raleigh M40 in I guess 1992. Foam grips and suntour shifters and some tioga pedals. It was too big, but when I was riding the woods I thought I was Missy Giovi or John Tomac. That bike was cool. I lent it to a friend, and he left it outside over the winter and killed it.

Rigid Trek 800 Antelope, Green with red lettering 1993 or '94.
Bike shop guy told me I probably shouldn't jump it after I broke the original fork, of course I didn't listen.

After a bunch of bmx's, I got a 26in rigid, black and white splatter paint Murray mtb from Sears with mushroom grips. It couldn't have been later than 1991 or 92, so I was 11 or 12 yrs old.
I rode it constantly in the nature trails of a nearby park until it was stolen from my backyard, the very first time I didn't bother to lock it up. I watched the guy ride off on it. I had forgotten how upset I was to have a bike stolen until the same thing happened to my '01 Specialized Hardrock, stolen barely a month after I moved to Philly.

i was using a borrowed rigid trail bike for a few years at places like wissahickon, tyler state park and mason's mill park...man, that bike was not up to the terrain i was riding it on.
after that thing died a painful death i bought a '96 GT Ricochet. AL frame, 21 speeds, all LX & some low end rockshox fork. i still have that bike, didn't ride it for a number of years but converted it to my first single speed last year. found out i was in love with riding a hard tail again and bought the blinglespeed i have now.

Not too sure of the year. Shwinn mesa fully rigid. Toe clips, SIS shifting. Bought it after riding a buddies bike in Wiss and it took me back to when I was a kid riding my 20 inch (GT Pro Freestyle Tour) on trails. The addiction just keeps getting worse. Actually better. Depends on who you ask. I gave it away to a friend after I upgraded. I'm pretty sure it's still in his garage.

I had a GF advance which was ok, sold that along with my car for $300, got a specialized stumpy steel which I just upgraded the fork to a sid team, v brakes, no discs yet, old school bike still works. Saves spending 2000 for a steel frame.

'90 Nishiki Manitoba, rigid, 21 sp. forget the group -might've been exage 400 - kind of basic. Worked. Abused it, bent it - the fate of 80% of my rides.
