Title: Sturdy Girl Cycling Energy Bar Wrapper Recycling Program
Post by: dirtmerchant on October 13, 2008, 10:08:24 AM
Hey all, I got this forwarded to me and I have started to throw all my wrappers in a zip lock bag (one I recycled that bike parts came in ;D ) Please do it as it sounds like a great idea and GREEN effort!!!!

Hey everyone, it’s time to add a little GREEN to our Sturdy Girl pink!

Sturdy Girl Cycling has registered to participate in a unique recycling program sponsored by Clif Bar and TerraCycle!  By doing so, we’re saving the earth, making Sturdy Girl Cycling a green club, and earning a greenback or two for our efforts!

Every year millions of non-recyclable energy bar wrappers end up in our landfills. TerraCycle and Clif Bar are working together to change that. As an eco-friendly innovator, TerraCycle is going to convert the used wrappers into unique accessories and other “upcycled” products.

== How does the program work? ==

We save our energy bar wrappers (details on what kind below) and Clif Bar will donate $.02 to Sturdy Girl Cycling for each wrapper. TerraCycle keeps track of how much we’re earned. But we won’t get rich by doing this! The point is to be green by recycling something we all use on a daily basis.

== What should you do next? ==

1) Every time you eat an energy bar, save the wrapper.
2) Store your saved wrappers in a large plastic or zip lock bag.
3) At the regular Sturdy Girl First Saturday Ride and at upcoming Sturdy Girl events, we will be collecting your bags of wrappers. Then we’ll send them in, in bulk, to TerraCycle.
4) Please also feel free to collect at your kids’ games, schools or work!

NOTE: Acceptable wrappers for this program include:
•   Energy bar wrappers – ALL BRANDS (not just Clif)
•   NO gel or Gu wrappers, please
•   NO candy, cookie or similar snack-type wrappers

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!
