Hey, how was the Kingdom?  I tried to gather a group to go up there this summer but couldn't get anyone to go.  I hear it's a great place.

You must ride this place. Freakin' awesome. We rode just about every trail on the darling hill side(burke mountain was closed) Well maintained, well marked, totally sweet single track. Make sure you ride sidewinder, it's like a roller coaster. I would definately go again. Check out burke mountain campground for camping. The folks at the kingdom trail center in East Burke were real helpful in planning out routes for us. A definate must for east coasters!

Where is "The Kingdom"

Aren't the Kingdom Trails in Vermont?  I heard it is a GREAT place to ride.

Yep, they're over by Burke Mtn I believe. I've ridden there a couple times, but it's been a couple years.

They have over a 100 miles of some of the most well crafted flowing singletrack I have ever ridden.  The trails are absolutely gorgeous.  They also have some FR stuff too for the adventurous at heart.

If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and make a plan to do so. It would be super cool to get a PMBA trip up there. Might be asking a lot out of people with an 8 hr drive at hand, but the trails there are some of the best in the country IMO.

Yeah, it's a long drive but you don't need to put up with possible airport delays or pay $300 to take you own bike along.  Unfortunately it's too late to plan for this season, but hopefully we can get a trip organized for next May or June when it warms up again. 

My fiance and I were thinking about heading up there this spring or early summer.  She has family in New Hampshire so were thinking about hitting the Kingdom for a few days then heading over to spend time with the fam (and of course ride the White Mountains  ;D). 

We haven't scheduled it yet, but if PMBA scheduled a trip we would definitely be interested in planning our trip along with that.

Great pictures!!...Tom nice bike... I like your seatpost clamp setup - who, where...I need to switch out my bolt, and get a new trick clamp, I have to start adjusting my seat on the fly, any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Wha???  I didn't see any "trick clamps."  Is there something I'm missing?

Just a quick release clamp; nothing special. I only drop it for dirt jumping but it's nice to be able to do without any tools. Highly recommended.

I looked into one of those gravity dropper seatposts but man they're pricey! I think the lowest I saw was $200 for the set up!

yea but you should see that gravity drop seat post in action. WHOA! was that the coolest thing I have seen in a while. Carl from Human Zoom has one and it is supa cool.

I had a buddy who rode with one and he said it was probably one of the best equipment upgrades of all time.  Around here, with all the short ups and downs, it would probably be pretty sweet.

I'll definitely be putting one on my holiday wish list for this year. At $200, it ain't cheap for something you sit on.

I used to think the gravity dropper was the greatest. It was the single device that drastically increased my MTB confidence and enjoyment. I trigged that thing everywhere; not just one downhills, but on rock gardens, log overs; and anything new or sketchy. So why don't I have it now? Well I've broke two of them. My buddy Dean broke three.

Of course we are no lightweights, but in all 5 breaks the GD failed when we just simply riding; not jumping, not at the bowl, just doing the same stuff we do every day. In each case we were lucky that the jagged metal breaks didn't cause serious injury. They all just stressed and broke. They have a fundamental design problem where they put the holes in the aluminum tube.

There are at least 6 other companies making telescoping seatposts now. Cranks Brothers just bought the mavick post is branded it as the Joplin. All Mountain Post is out too, and I forget the details. There is also the new Rase post which boasts a rack and pinion mechanism (which could be stronger) and drops a whopping 9" (there's a video from interbike showing it.) Sette brand at PricePoint makes a $30 post which does not feature a remote. And Mongoose is putting yet another company's version on their high end Khyber as stock this year. and there are a number other similar posts out there that I forget.

Wayne from GD is the nicest person in the world and I wish him the best, but he never did replace my last broken GD and again, after me and Dean breaking 5 of them, I'd tell you to try something else.

My advice, file down the seat post bolt if it sticks out, unless you want this to happen

What exactly are we looking at there, and how did a seat post bolt cause that mischief?

Seat post clamp bolt was sticking out like 1/2", and in a small OTB it landed on my calf, puctured it, and pulled back the skin.  Not too deep, but large area

Won't see this frame for a while. Luckily I did not crash. Was hammering full speed out of of corner today and sheared a bolt on the swingarm, bike taco'ed sideways with lots of momentum and the swingarm cracked......A moment of silence please.

And if your frame cracks, you just have to tape it back together.....sweet!! Watch out though while riding it, you could get attacked by a Panda!!!

Too cheap to get a real one so I searched the web for ideas (there are lots of them) and decided on this.  A little flexy but for now it will suite my needs.

that's better than my bike stand which consists of a mini-vice clamped to a 2x6 which is atttached to some shelving. really rigged up, but it works, sometimes. I'll post a pic soon.

Nice John. Maybe you could mount that right to the floor. As long you use the right anchors it should be somewhat sturdy.

As it just so happens, while I was home for Thanksgiving my sister accosted
me to pose for a photo shoot for an assignment at school. Of course, it had
to be nude, and of course it had to be mostly done outside, and of course
it had to be the end of November in the Berkshire mountains. Froze my nuts
off, but she seemed happy with what she got.

Damn Joel, I didn't recognize you! :o  I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago minus the bike and family members. I did an outdoor nude photo shoot at an abandoned farm in Warminster. It was very cold!  I'd share, but technically it's not bike porn since no bikes were involved.

Any women that have this dilemma feel free to send said pics to me ;D

Nice setup!  if you got a larger diameter pipe for the vertical (at least 2" I'd say) and then a reducing ell, (or a reducing bushing in a standard 2" ell) and you'd be good to go.  Bet most of the flex is in the vertical pipe, it's pretty damn tall.

Waitasec - we get an offer for a posting of an outdoor nude shot from Shadow - and the conversation turns to "reduced bushing sizes" of bike parts???  Unless there's some subtilety in that comment that I'm missing, you guys are WAY too much into bikes!

My bike is badass! I love my bike.

I had to post these pics of the bike after the ride the other night.  They looked so cool with all the mud on them; people were gaping at them on the way home.  It was awesome!

Here is my new (new to me) Ventana.  I built it up using ebay and I am really happy with how it turned out.  I am still trying to get used to the single speed thing … it is growing on me.
