The closed off trail has been re-opened by "rogues". Jesse and I rode by there today, and you could take the old line down the way you could before the reroute.

Maybe we can take a couple of the old trees down nearby and really block it.

Could be part of the Nat'l trail day thing.....

Horse ppl?   Who the hell would move all those logs to take the boring route down?

On the closed trail, put up a sign that says "EZ Pass Only Lane".  Who's gonna have one on their horse??  Ha!!! That'll confuse the hell out of them.

It's not just that they've opened that trail, but that it sweeps down and turns right into the old Miko trail. That trail has been nicely hidden for years. No one should ride it but it's nice that it's there. It needs to be hidden again though, right now the 're-opened' trail is like a freeway on ramp.

Saw, I checked out those Henry Ave entrance trails and see nothing anyone could be upset about. There was one minor jump over a log off to the side and I can't imagine it would upset anyone. It was so small even I could ride over it.

Fish, I figured as much. Always the ones who find the smallest things, and WHO DON'T WANT TO HELP, make the most noise. I think it was just someone who uses that leg of the trail to commute through. I mean, who actually parks or enters there?

Ok. I have a plan to hopefully close that section for good. We are not going to be able to do on this work day, but may try to knock it out someday next week. Stay tuned.

Tom and I have "reclosed" that trail about 4 times since we closed it. They keep fighting back for a boring trail. Makes no sense, these are angry people who don't like the world, I think they may be Al Queda members that are squatting in our park. NEIL, get the guns and meet me at Tom's house...  >:(

How about some claymores I have been storing since the Y2K scare?

While riding down that section about 2 weeks ago for whatever reason I was thinking about how a horse would fair going down...I usually always go up.  There were some low trees and two skinny ones kind of close together and for someone on a horse maybe that's an issue??  I'm just wondering if there's 1-2 little things that might make a big difference to a rider.

If anyone has a contact at one of the stables, maybe shoot over an email or something asking what folks don't like abouit it.  Of course, they might say everything!

Good point. I know there were hoof marks in the new trail in the days/weeks after we did it, and they weren't mine!

Isn't this the section where the one horse rider got into a "discussion" with Paul about the new trail?  If I recall correctly, the horse rider thought the new trail was more of a mountain bike trail and not good for horses.

I'm not sure about that 'discussion' but if I remember correctly we had Helen and a couple other from Monastery stables out helping that day. And I also thought it was tested and approved by some horse riders.

That trail is a part of the learning experience and we all know of the mistake of closing the old one too soon. But at least the new one is much more sustainable. I sometimes have to get off my bike to ride it, so if you have to get off and lead your horse once in a while, at least that better than further destroying the mountain side.

Do we need warning signs?

All this being said I think the SSI may call for a complete reroute of the whole Gorgas mess. But right now I'm most interested in getting the old section completely closed and turning the Miko trail into an expedition at best.

I was just thinking how much I love the new Gorgas re-route. In fact, that entire section from Gorgas heading south is a blast to ride.

That said, I can imagine that some horse riders may baulk at the switchback.

Any chance of using rope, or nailing some large branches into a blockade fence, plus putting a sign up indicating that this is a closed trail and we will keep it closed no matter how many times you try to open of up again, (this means war ya know!);

The gorgas rerout is awsome to ride, and although I haven't rode on horses in a long time, I would imagine the trial would look scetchy for Horseback riders, yet it should be easily navigated by a horse, the switchback is lined with sturdy rock armoring, horses are large but agile--maybe we should double doublecheck the tree width to make sure riders can get though, other than that there shouldn't be any issue, anyone know already?

I like the idea of a non-inflammatory sign. The demo 1 signs have been up for 2 years and no one has messed with them. We can just put up the same thing on a stake talking about the Gorgas reroute and maybe one at the top of the old trail asking people not to use it with a brief explanation as to why.

On any new sign made, I think we should also add, if permissible, that the trail was closed as part of the STI, which was mandated by the FPC and/or FOW.

You mean like the sign we had at the top Gorgus trail which was ripped in two, and pieces of the stake scatered about....?

so it sounds to me like there is one individual in need of an attitude adjustment. I'm sure many are tired of the extra work the person has levied on us.

I don't think what his happening there is anything to do with horse riders.

I would just like to emphisize what Tom..er ....I mean what Lust4 said, we are going to be kind to all users ( my neck is straining and I want to find those mother%$&@^. Who ripped apart our signs) we are not the bad guy's-and getting friction from users is just part of the trail rerouting business, and this issue realy is just a small part of the problems facing PMBA and the park, we can't change everyone overnight, but it is our actions and how we adress each of the issues that come our way that will determine the end results of our future. WE are steering OUR ship, (metaphor) and any dumb asses that are breaking signs and stomping closed trails are just part of the waters we sail, they will smartin up over time, hell-maybe they may come out to TMDs and help out, you never know. Hopefully the waters will be smooth ...
