Title: FOW structure fire (by the covered bridge)
Post by: RepoMan on May 09, 2008, 02:24:45 PM
A friend of mine sent me a picture (http://www.phillymtb.com/images/comprofiler/plug_profilegallery/162/pg_158527506.jpg) of the burned out FOW tool house by the covered bridge earlier this week. He said people on site cleaning up said signs pointed to professional arson (3 points of ignition by kerosene), not just vandalism, and that it's the 4th FOW structure targeted. I don't know who said it or if it's true, I'm just passing along what he was told.

This happened back in early April. On the same night a restroom structure which was just about finished being restored by FOW at Kitchens Lane got totally wrecked also. This totally sucks and who knows, it could be people who are mad at FOW and have serious personal issues and would do something like this, or just punk kids bored and having fun. Either way it sucks, and we will never store our tools in any structure in the park. (FOW offered us to store our tools there or at another structure by Bells Mills Rd and we declined.) This happened the night before their APril Volunteer Day and we loaned them tools so they could hold their planned work at Courtesy Stables. They were really appreciative of us... They told us they have insurance so the tools will be replaced however the whole situation makes me sick... Man would I love to stumble into these scumbags trying to do this. They would be DEAD or at least strung up by their feet in a tree over Forbidden Drive for everyone to see and split on them or club them like a pinata...

Ah, I had seen the one by Kitchen's Lane, but am usually above the covered bridge and don't go by that house too often while riding. I didn't realize they had both burned at the same time. It's a shame to see hard work go up in smoke because someone's bitter and/or bored.
