Title: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: dannmer on April 16, 2008, 10:06:13 PM I heard today that an officer from the 92nd caught someone breaking into cars in one of the parking lots. Don't know any more details. Hopefully this will reduce the number of break-ins.
Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: Lust4singletrack on April 17, 2008, 07:18:47 AM That's great news Dan! I have a theory that it's more that just one guy, but rather a whole group or multiple groups. We were just talking about this yesterday, saying that we should set up a sting and try to figure out who it is doing it. Not confront them but maybe get a license plate of the car they are using to get there and a general description.

Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: bonkers on April 17, 2008, 08:42:04 PM That's awesome!
Is there anyway to talk to police or city parks people to look into installing security cams in the parking lots? Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: Dmitri on April 18, 2008, 09:40:48 AM Hunter is right. Even if it doesn't get as seriosu as shooting, aside from things getting out hand, self administered justice isn't the image we want.
Lets keep plugging away at bugging Dist 92, FPC and FOW for more security. dz Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: pahearn on April 18, 2008, 10:36:49 AM I'm not sure what Lou had in mind but he might not be talking about try to actually apprehend/beat-the-living-piss-out-of these scum bags, but maybe just stake-out the area and call the cops as soon as something goes down. Maybe track them from a distance if they're moving, or get a plate # if they're in a vehicle.

Title: Re: Thief caught breaking into cars. Post by: Dmitri on April 18, 2008, 01:14:34 PM I was just pointing out and cautioning against inherent danger of a big difference between saying "oh we'll just write the plate number down" and actually doing just that when seeing the scum bag breaking in someone's car and getting all pissed at them, and loosing cool and getting into the confrontation.
