Title: Some people on ebay really suck
Post by: DAGMTB on April 15, 2008, 07:23:03 AM
I won this auction yesterday and promptly made payment.  I dont need to tell anyone on here that the items likely could have fetched more as they look new.  I get an email this morning when I wake up from the seller stating that he was packing the items up and the shifter was skipping so he refunded my money.  pretty strange no?  I responded saying that he either falsified the listing, got more elsewhere, or was keeping the items for himself and that I would consider not giving him negative feedback.

I don't know dagmtb, he's got a pretty high rating a bit of experience on eBay. Plus, he did it, "Buy it Now", which means from the start he wasn't gunning for a higher price. It's a tough call, because you give him negative feedback and he does the same to you. I always wait until they give positive feedback before I start yelling. And remember, it's eBay, not you local lbs. Personally I've found the customer service from individuals on eBay to be often better than the real world, but occasionally you do have problems.

And "lightly used"? I lightly used my brand new SRAM chain yesterday and broke it within 20 minutes.

This reminds me, I have Fox Launch size jacket/top with all the padding and spine protection. Ebay seller listed it "XL" and unfortunately it was "L". It looks virtually brand new; a couple of minor scuffs. I'll put it in the Classifieds; it's just $$80 and goes for $100 more new. I told the seller I'd see if anyone here wanted it before I sent it back. I bought I lot of other stuff from him at a great deal, so I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

I agree with Jesse.  He has a high rating and has sold a lot of items and the Buy It Now option was used so it doesn't appear to be any kind of price gauging.

Maybe he is just trying to save his reputation and didn't want to sent you something that didn't work like his item description stated.

I wouldnt leave negative feedback, although it does sound fishy, you didn't get a bad product and the seller may be looking out for your best interest, negative feedback should be used if things get ugly on ebay.  I would just move on and forget that seller.

Just so I can beat this question to death....

I would not leave negative. It could be worse. I recently recieved an item that came to me not as it was described and considered leaving negative. It was a FOX36 Vanilla and the seller told me it had the QR20 but it did not when I recieved it. I was pissed till I put it on my bike and it felt smooth as warm butter so I let it go because I got a killer deal.

Yeah, I got my Reba 29er fork for a killer deal, new and "uncut", but when it arrived it was new, though had already been cut a couple of inches. The dude had a bunch for sale and offered a replacement or $100 off. I took the money.

I know eBay has changed their feedback system though because people are frightened to be honest for fear of receiving negative feedback in return. I'm not sure of how it works though; I just know to wait for positive feedback from the seller before I formally complain. But that shouldn't stop you from getting tough in email.

Well, just to add my own quick story.

I am currently waiting for a response from a seller regarding tracking info for a set of Shimano XT shifter/brake levers that I just won and paid for on Sunday.  Hopefully, I will receive a response or at least the item.

I have had situations where the seller will respond right away and then when you pay for the item, no responses.  Thank the Lord above for PayPal.

I think between being ripped off on ebay recently and this I was just really fired up.  He sent me a couple emails explaining the situation and offering proof of the shifter not working, etc.  I told him I was willing to take his word and would just move on.  it could have been worse I agree, I think anyone else who had just lost $50 on ebay would agree that its easier to assume the worse in this situation than assume someone can actually be honest.  C'est la vie.

now to track down another sram drivetrain.

Did you use PayPal when you lost the $50?  You should be covered and should be able recoup your money.

I don't understand. You mean he's only refunding a portion of it and sending the part that works? If you don't want it now just tell him to refund the whole thing. I'm sure he will.

Jess, I think the $50 is a separate issue.
