Title: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: Dmitri on February 20, 2007, 08:53:29 AM Anyone wants to see if the trails would drain/dry enough with the 40-50 temps? I'm itching ot ride in warmer temps.

Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: Dmitri on February 20, 2007, 10:19:28 AM That's possible. Tho a lot of trails are in places where they drain very well, so it's also possible that they would be ok. Tho there will be sections to stay away from.
dz Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 20, 2007, 10:28:55 AM yeah i don't think there is ANY possiblity of riding without leaving big ugly gouges in the trail...
where's your roadbike??? if you want to ride year round, you need one for time like this! i'd maybe be up for hitting some hills in manayunk with the singlspeeds wed night! you ever ridden "the wall"? i haven't... i'd even maybe throw some road tires on. unfortunately with the way things are setting up weatherwise i don't see any dirt riding happening this week :'( Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 20, 2007, 10:33:04 AM OR....
i challenge any and all to a wises mill hill climb wed night! most times up the mill (ALL the way to the top) and back wins. maybe even a race or two up to the top for sh!ts and giggles. or sumthin ;) Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: Dmitri on February 20, 2007, 10:59:21 AM I like the idea of the hill climb competition. There is also that paved climb by the construction area on the Kelly end of the park.
Another possibility I was thinking about was going over to NJ side, I heard that closer to the shore they got no snow and with sandier soil it would dry out quicker. Hill climbs challenge!!! ;D dz Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 20, 2007, 12:42:23 PM yeah i hear the only time to ride some of the jersey stuff is when it's wet cause it is so sandy.
there is about ZERO chance of me trying to get to jersey after work though. but for you it sounds PERFECT. i am down with dorkin around the wiss wednesday night if there is any interest... we could have a paved hill challenge, i don't think i even know all the road climbs in and out of the park we can do, but i am sure most of them are absolutely disgusting... but i don't need to go ride the pavement, just something to do if there are others who are bored as well. so if you feel like it, come out and beat me on some hill climbs... if there is no interest i'll be home watchin TV that night not really that bummed that i missed out on the PAIN. Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: lanceh on February 20, 2007, 01:31:51 PM sounds like a plan to me. pick a meeting point and time.
Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 20, 2007, 01:46:48 PM maybe the traditional 6:30 at valley green?
OOH BABY, HILL RACING! i threw up in my mouth a little just thinking about it... :-X Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: Dmitri on February 20, 2007, 02:44:43 PM For god's sake, don't keep it there! Spit it out!
I bet there will be more than one of us who's going to barf at the top of that hill. :-\ time/place sounds good to me. dz Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 20, 2007, 02:54:37 PM vomitting ON someone is actually my only real strategy for winning so far.

Post by: ChrisB on February 21, 2007, 11:53:57 AM Even though I do enjoy throwing up on fellow riders, I think I'll be throwing up on swimmers tonight.
I've got to relearn how to swim before the Philly Triatholon. Hey Max, look forward to doing the Wissahickon Trail Classic with you. If you like hill climbing in the Wissahickon on a bike, you'll love 10K of ups and downs on foot. I did it last year...T'was BRUTAL! Chris Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: Dmitri on February 21, 2007, 01:25:25 PM Yo Chris, as the other Chris put it, you might get more of swimming practice at Wissa tonight then at your local pool!
Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 21, 2007, 02:39:40 PM hey chris,
where do you swim? meghan is midly interested in trying some triathalons and i can't figure out where she could practice swimming without a gym membership. i need to seriously whip myself into shape if i am gonna runin the 10k this year... lets just say i haven't been running nearly as much as i planned... ::) I AM WEAK AND HAVE NO WILLPOWER TO RUN... and here i thought singlespeeding was hard. Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: ChrisB on February 21, 2007, 03:27:35 PM I know, running is a whole different kind of hurt.
The hardest part is just making yourself do it. As of now, I swim at Saint Joe's Uni. Mariana wors there (so she gets in free) and I either sneak in or pay $5 a pop, which is cheaper than a membership. I'm thinking about going back to school, so I can get free gym membership, but I haven't figured out what to study. Have Fun playing on the Hills. Post by: lanceh on February 22, 2007, 09:08:02 AM 10k running on flat land...hell 10 miles running down broad street is a piece of cake but i cringe at the thought of 10k running through the park.
i've often thought about attempting to trail run there but there are 2 things that stop me ever time: - the thought of running on that trail...huhuhu - the fact that i could be there on a bike enjoying it a whole lot more oh and to keep this on topic...it took the entire drive home last night for my feet to thaw out. what a mistake riding forbidden was prior to everyone getting there. Title: Re: Wednesday night (2-21-07) ride @ Wissa? Post by: max on February 22, 2007, 11:09:23 AM yeah the 10k at wissahickon looks to hurt A LOT! they run up and down almost continuously (maybe a mile total on forbidden). they go over the indian and up the nature center hill.... not that anyone here would know since it is off limits to bikes but THAT HILL IS LONG AS HELL!
i would think it is defintiely easier to run 10 flat miles than run this.... spectating last year, the looks on peoples faces said it all. for me running so far is merely a tool to ride my bike faster (when i can force myslef to go out anyway).... i hope someday i can find some joy in it but so far those moments have been very brief compared to the intense pain i usually feel trying to keep up with my GF who really seems to enjoy this sickness... i bet she will be up near the front at the 10k this year!
