Title: Wheels Post by: JDurk on March 27, 2008, 10:52:53 AM Looking to upgrade my wheels on a C'dale Prophet 600 with Lefty. Thinking about some type of Mavic setup, either a factory wheelset or a custom built set. Maybe a set of Industry 9's. Anyone have any suggestions of local shops or online builders. I'm in S. Jersey. Thanks.

In the front you're kind of stuck with whatever C-dale provides to work with lefty... dz Title: Re: Wheels Post by: JDurk on March 27, 2008, 11:52:31 AM Take a look at this link. They're now available.

I have regular original design I9s and love them dz Title: Re: Wheels Post by: max on March 27, 2008, 01:37:51 PM harlan rides da i9 with da lefty
therefore if you get i9's with your lefty i would believe you'll be just as fast as harlan (no brainer in my mind) ;) i saw one of his bikes sporting those wheels monday down @ trophy. he even has sweet green spokes to match the indy fab green-ness on the bike! Title: Re: Wheels Post by: JDurk on March 27, 2008, 02:43:15 PM Well I can blame Harlan for planting the seed to do the upgrades. He wrote an article a few months back in Bicycling about the Wilderness 101. The article got me thinking about doing some races this spring and a goal of completing the 101. I figured that a few upgrades over the stock parts would be helpful. Wanted a set of wheels that can take a typical Wiss beating, but also be race worthy.
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: fishnchips on March 27, 2008, 02:49:13 PM Did Harlan get his stolen bike back? Or is this another one? He'd just gotten his personal Indy Fab a few months ago when his place was ransacked.
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: Dmitri on March 27, 2008, 02:56:13 PM Max and I have signed up for Wild 101 as well as SM100 and Mohican. Come on out and join us! Ezra? Are you going to do them agian this year?
Yep, my I9s so far are working perfect for these purposes. Oh and if you think that Wild 101 will be less thrashing then Wiss... Hmmm... You're in for a surprise. State College has some seriously technical riding... dz Title: Re: Wheels Post by: squads on March 27, 2008, 04:15:51 PM Yeah I think you'd be surprised by the difficulty of certain sections up in State College. There are some wicked runs there.
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: JDurk on March 28, 2008, 08:18:27 AM I'm sure that the 101 will be way more difficult than the Wiss. That's why I said I'd like to complete (not compete) in the 101.
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: dirtmerchant on March 28, 2008, 08:42:17 AM To get you guys back on subject, check out the Azonic Outlaw wheelset. Very reasonably priced and they look pretty stout. I just bought a set for my Dirt Jumper but haven't gotten them yet. For my trail bikes, I love Mavic rims, and run a freeride rim on the front and a DH rim on the back. But that is mostly because I kept bending the FR rims on the back, probably because I'm so rad. Haha :P Anyway, Sun rims always seem to develop flat spots for me so I don't use them anymore. Wiss rocks are knarly! I run Chris King hubs, because they are the best out there hands down and are fully servicable. I bought the tool kit and break mine apart at least once a year. I have been running them for 5 years and they still work like new. Definitely worth the up front investment...
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: JDurk on March 28, 2008, 09:48:34 AM You're right, let's get back on topic. Any suggestions for a good LBS to build my wheels. Or would I be better off doing something from an online builder/retailer.
Title: Re: Wheels Post by: Dmitri on March 28, 2008, 09:52:55 AM If you do decide going with I9s, give a call to Ben Witt at http://milltowncycle.com/ (http://milltowncycle.com/)
When a buddy of mine and I got ours, he had the best deal by far and also his service was outstanding. Let him know that Dmitri recommended him to you. Sending him some business is the least I can do in return for great deal and service. dz Title: Re: Wheels Post by: dieselkarl on March 28, 2008, 07:49:29 PM See Josh at the Marlton NJ REI. I'm sure he'd order you up some Mavic Crossmax ST's. The I9's are a great wheel but in the event of offbeat mechanical needs, the mavics are supported by more shops. Plus, if you order by sun 3/30 and you're a member of REI, you can probably use your 20% off coupon.
