I plan on being there by 630 and rolling out shortly after.  I have a white Ford truck, black dog, black bike.  Everyone welcome, I'll ride whatever speed of the people who show up.

I am definitely interested, but tryng to decide if I'll leave earlier.  The park curfew is still in effect (confirm....?) so if you leave at 6:30, are you running lights or trying to beat the sun down? 

At first I thought it would be early enough to get a ride in before dark but after looking at the sunset we'll have to finish in the dark.  I have an extra light but someone else is already borrowing it.  I have to wait on my two friends who are going with us so it might be more like 6:45 but I am hoping for the best.

The weather looks good for tomorrow so the ride is defenitely on.  I'm going to try to be there by 6:30.  We should have light for an hour or so, so if you don't have a light you can still catch most of the ride and bail as it gets darker.  Since the ban is no longer in effect I plan on getting a good ride in so will take my light with me.  Hope to see some people out there tomorrow!

Sorry Halfloop.  We must've missed you.  We got stuck in downtown traffic and didn't pull up until about 6:15.  I looked but didn't see anyone that looked like they were waiting.  On the bright side, we rolled out of the parking lot at 6:30 and got 5 1/2 miles before it got too dark.  Next week I'll just stick to 6:30 and we should have enough light for those without headlamps.

np, I thought maybe I missed you cause I got there at exactly 6, saw 1 white pickup but no black dog.  Waited for about 10 min then rolled out.  Maybe next week.

Hopefully we can hook up next week.  I live in Northern Liberties and picked one of my biking buddies up at 18th and Bainbridge.  I left at 5:15 thinking that would be plenty of time but was wrong.  Next week he'll just meet us out there!  See ya then.

Hey all,  I had a terrible accident last night.  As we were packing up at the pavillion last night, the park ranger was coming to tell us to get out because it was about 9. I was in a hurry becuase I felt bad about pushing the time limit and in my hurry left one of the straps on my bike rack undone.  Long story short, bike fell off and imploded on 76 near City Ave.  Sooooo, I'm currently on suicide watch and won't be able to ride tonight.  Hopefully you all will have a good ride anyway.  I could borrow my buddy's old Foes but I don't think I'm in the mood.  The worste part is that I'm going to Moab next Tuesday and was excited becuase US air was going to let me take my bike bag without charge.  I guess now I'll be demoing some rides in the hopes I find one I like while there.  I just put in a claim with my insurance hoping they'll cover it.  Unfortunately we don't have renter's insurance so it's all up to my auto.  Also, due to being in Moab, I won't be here for ride next wednesday or Rally.  Hopefully I'll have a bike by the following wednesday and can get the ride up and running again.  Let me know if any of you are selling a good used bike.

Durb, wow man that really sucks! But shit, there ain't nothin you can do about it now except get a new bike. In the meantime I have a Kona Coiler that you can ride if you dont get a bike by your next ride. Keep your head up bro. SHIT HAPPENS! Oh, and Moab will help take your mind off of this incident like nothing else. Have a BLAST!

Durb, that sucks, man!  Your bike came flying off onto I-76?  I feel sorry for you and your bike, but was there anyone in a car behind you when it came flying off?  I hope you just need to pay for a new bike and not someone else's car.

Thanks for the sympathy.  Rico, I think everyone got out of the way in time which is good.  Thanks for the offer Lou, I may take you up on it.  I can borrow my buddy's old Foes for now but I may join you in JT saturday if it's not raining in which case I would rather have a little more suspension.  I'll get back to you after we know more about the weather.  It is fun to look at bikes though.

Any chance you're selling the Coiler?

Awesome shot, Lou.  Are most of the slickrock trails painted with trail markings out there?  I'm heading out there in September.

Jon, yes slickrock has most of the trails marked but they are not that easy to see all the time. You can mostly follow the black rubber marks from the tires!

I'm mending my heart with the search for a new bike.  I'm going to re-build with some of the stuff that didn't get creamed and try to upgrade what I have to replace.  I'm looking at some Kona Dawg frames that are on sale at Wheelworld.  Lou, how do you like the coiler?  It's more of a free-ride 6" setup isn't it?  How's the frame on weight?

Durb, I love the Coiler. I have it set up as a light trail bike with 5" of travel. I have air suspension and two sets of wheels, one heavy and one light. I use the heavy set in the Wiss and the light set at Belmont and WHite Clay where there are not near as many rocks and it's smooth and fast. But I don't ride this bike near as much as my Gemini which is my heavy 6" coil suspension bike. However you can easily put coil suspension on the Coiler, if you're looking for that, and it would make for a sweet freeride rig. The Dawg's are real nice too! Either way you will have a sweet ride... I personally prefer coil suspension as it has a much more plush feel and the rebound is much more responsive. You can't replicate a steel coil spring with a cushion of air. But the weight savings of air suspension is its major benefit...

Cool.  They have a real good deal on the frames but they don't have my size in the dawg.  I wasn't sure if I could get the Coiler to match up with my 5" fork.  Did you change the shock that comes with it?  The one I'm buying comes with a  coil Fox Vanilla R.  Can I dial that back to match up with my front or should I put my Fox Float R air shock on it?

Well, just got back from Moab...which is about the greatest place on earth.  I caught 8 inches of powder at Snow Basin last Tuesday and rode Moab the next four days!  I still don't have my bike yet.  I'm hoping it comes in today so will let you know later if there is a chance of riding.  I could ride my friends hardtail but not sure if I want to.  If anyone wants to ride with us and has a L/M full suspension I could borrow, let me know.  Anyway, I'll update this afternoon if the 6:30 ride is going to happen or not.  I should know by noon if the bike came in today.

Ok, I've decided to go even without the new ride.  We'll be at the Valley Green Parking lot around 6:30.  I'll probably come in from the Chestnut Hill side.

Is this a beginners friendly ride?  I know it says slow to moderate, so I'm just curious.  I'm still on the slow side and if I were to come I'd hate to hold people up.

We have a little of everything in our group but tonight so far no one else can go so I'd be happy to ride whatever speed you want. 

Hey man, that sounds great I really appreciate that, but now I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it either.  I have someone coming by my apartment to take a look at something and I'm not sure how long that will take. 

Do you plan to ride at 6:30 no matter what?  If so, is there a number that I could call or text you at to let you know if I'll be coming or not? 

yeah, I'll try to roll out around 6:30 no matter what in case anyone else is planning on showing up.  I come from the city and deal with traffic so it's not always exactly 6:30 but that's what I shoot for to be somewhat predictable in case anyone wants to just show up.  You can text or call me at 816-645-6757 to let me know if you'll make it. 

The 6:30 ride is defenitely on tonight.  We'll be at Valley Green at 6:30 as usual.  I do have one request though; I need someone to take over the Wed. night ride for me.  I am graduating from medical school and will be out of town the next three weeks and start residency when I get back and won't have much time(esp. time I can set aside).  I'll ask a couple of the people who've been riding with me but anyone is welcome to take it over.

Also, we're going to move the ride up tonight to 5:30 to accomodate one of my friends who usually rides with me.  I see that tom can't make the other wed. ride so maybe we could just meet at Livezy at 5:30 and join rides.

Just a reminder that there will be no 6:30 ride tonight.  I'll be out of town this week and next but will pick up with the rides after that.

Unfortunately, the weather is not working out today.  I have a couple of notes to make though.  I'm moving the time to 7:30 and the location to Livezy.  Now that it's dark later it works best the regulars and I to come a little later(which might open up an option for some of you who have to work late like we do).  We usually get about 1hr 10-20min ride in.  When the light starts going down earlier we'll just bring lights.  Also, I start a medical residency in a couple weeks and will be a little less predictable due to on-call and night shifts etc....so just make sure to check the website if you plan on coming and make sure I'll be there.  Livezy is just faster for us to get to also.  Here's a link to the map:

keep in mind Durb that parking at Livezy locks up at dark. There is street parking across the way or you can park one up at Wiggard  where there is no gate.

We may move the location if our rides get in too late or just make sure that everyone parks on the road.  We've actually been getting in just before dark.   Thanks, on the residency, I will need it at Temple.  I'm doing emergency medicine which should be interesting there.

That's one busy emergency room. Should be an expert on gunshot wounds in no time.
