Title: Re: helmet camera Post by: Lou on January 02, 2008, 09:40:36 PM I saw that Human Zoom in Manayunk just got in these real sweet one's for $169, which is totally good price compared to the older models, and is also real compact. I also saw an add for these cameras in the latest BIKE magazine. I have no idea of their quality, but check www.mtbr.com which should have some reviews... (FYI: I don't work for any bike shop or manufacturer)
Title: Re: helmet camera Post by: jpearce on January 03, 2008, 08:10:54 AM I have one made by Oregon Scientific that's available for about $100, I think. It looks like a thick cigar tube with a little LCD panel on the side. It uses an SD card and AAA batteries and shoots smann 640x480 shots. There's NO viewer for the pictures - you need to download them by a SD reader ot USB cable to see them. I've used in on my handlebars and gotten some neat videos, but the main problem I've had is that it shuts off when the batteries get a little low. I've had it fail in winter, when they're cold and have a slight voltage drop. The solution is sometimes to use lithium AAAs, which are higher voltage than alkalines, but I've even had the problem with lithium batteries. But when it works it's pretty neat - and cheap.

It does a pretty good job and if you don't have an IPOD video, you've got something better in my opinion. Its a very versatile unit. Follow this link to see the player, then click on accessories to see the helmet cam attachment. I used this at Whistler and in the Wiss quite a bit and its been really pretty rugged. I've had it drop on the ground a couple times by accident and its still kicking just fine.
