Im not sure if this has been discussed already but after seeing it a few times i cant imagine riding up w/o a bashring.  If guys are cleaning this section help me out with game plan for it. 

you can most certainly clean it without a bashring, although its really pretty tough, you have to sort of bunny hop your back wheel over some of the stuff and keep your momentum, its definitely challenging.

I have cleaned it many times without my bashring touching anything. It's pretty much a 100% effort. Get your front wheel up and then thrust the bars forward pulling you back wheel up to the ledge in a fast motion. Key is to keep your momentum and try to stay smooth. Also you want to go easy on the bottom of the climb and save your energy for that spot in the middle where there is 3 big ones close in a row. That's the toughest spot on the climb. Practice. You'll get it.

without a bashring? I'm trying to figure out how to clean it without pitons or a ski lift

Demo 2 is the new Indian section. It is definitely tough but very do-able. Tom's right, it's all in your momentum... Try lowering your seat also, which helps keep you low and powerful... Try it til you get it  ;)

I'm still to clear the whole thing going up hill on my SS. My hat goes off to Tom, as I personally seen him clear it many times. It's impressive sight to behold. And he's right 100%, keep the flow, keep moving, try not to run out of steam.

Lou, maybe lowering the seat would give some more room and control to hop the back wheel up the ledges, but it definitely would not give more power. Pedalling with legs always half bent is not the strongest way. The power comes from more extention. While it's not optimal for mountain biking, the road bike seat height is the one that would give you the most power to the pedals.

I haven't cleared it yet either.  Singlespeed...Tried again today several times, but kept getting caught on the third step of that group.  Got the front wheel on it fine but didn't have any more momentum and I don't have the trials skills to hop it up the rest of the way.   

I'll keep trying, was close but not there yet.....

Ha. Good one Chris. I wanted to try and get over to the indian last night to try again, but our ride was cut short by mechanicals (one dead light for Kman and my BB seized up).

I must admit that I don't get this climb everytime. Sometimes it gets me. I gotta hand to you guys trying it on ss. No joke. When you finally clean it will be something else. Of course some people would say the same bout us guys doing it on our FR rigs. To each his own.

Yep I'm stuck at two and a half middle steps too... Get the lower two of the three tough steps in the middle almost every time, get the front wheel on the third and die.

But that's starting from the bottom. Once I tried from that relatively flat relatively long section bellow those steps and cleared all three steps easily.

The steps are not that tough technically on their own, but combined with the effort and fatigue from humping up the lower section, they get really hard really fast!

I'm kinda the opposite.  I don't have much issue with running out of power, but just not the tech to get the back tire up that last step.  Sometimes don't make it that far, but today that was the issue.

That said, I'm ok at climbing, but kinda a klutz when it comes to getting over stuff.  Sometimes I do stupid stuff like pedal strike the smaller bottom ones and don't even get that far.   :D

Still practicing....Did better today, so there is hope.

I cleaned demo 2 today for the first time on my SS 29er.  It definitely requires 100% effort and good tech skills.  I made a concious effort to be as fluid as possible from the start and was able to pull it off.  If I do it again I am going to have a trophy made for myself!

On 29er... Same here.

On saturday I went down Demo2 and almost crashed. You really don't wanna hit it to fast. Then I climbed back up, it's almost getting easy, and then bombed it again and hit a jump near the bottom that I never hit before and it was awesome. That is one sweet section.

Demo #2 really seems to baffle riders, i think thats great about it, takes some time getting used to eh?!
Gets more interesting everytime I hear people describing how to approach ridding the bizzare layout of its flow.
