Post by: kenn72 on December 04, 2007, 11:30:51 AM
Does anyone know of a reputable frame painter in the Philadelphia area?  ???

Don't know any specific frame painters, but I can suggest some powder coaters that I've dealt with over my years in the sheet metal fabricating business.

General Metals in Bensalem, PA.  http://www.generalmetal.com/

Model Finishing on Cottman Ave in NE Philly.  http://modelfinishing.com/

Gill Powder Coating in Bensalem, PA.  http://www.gillpowder.com/

Not in PA, but quality work
Haward Corporation in N. Arlington, NJ.  http://www.haward.com/index.html

I think Lou had powdercoating done at http://boneheadperformance.com/, right Lou? There was a thread about this on MTBR some time ago...

Actually, I am seeking a painter.  No powder coat on this here rig!

My brother Paul had his Turner powdercoated by that guy. He did an awesome job and it only cost $40! However it hasn't held up great. He got it done in a bronze and black pattern and the bronze color has wore off in some areas. But the base coat is still in tact so it is just cosmetic...

There was an article in a past issue of Bicycling Magazine about this builder.  He's right here in the city.  From looking at the website, they also do paint.  Hope this helps.

Yeah Bilenky's in the NE, although he might outsource the painting.

Just curious, why paint instead of powder coating?

Excellent question.  The frame I am doing is a 1994 EWR (see my avatar). It was originally painted and would like to keep the frame original.  I know it is not as environmentally friendly, but you wouldn't powder coat a classic car, would you?
