Title: 1 inch forks? RockShox/Manitou/old school cool rigid
Post by: Adam Leiter on November 04, 2007, 03:22:23 PM
Hey people,

Anyone have a stash or looking to get rid of a 1 inch steerer size suspension fork? I'm looking for a Rock Shox or Manitou, and older models that need refurbishing would be cool. Or, do you know of a cool old school rigid, like a Bontrager switchblade?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Aww man, I just went through this about 2 months ago.  No one seems to have any more of these laying around, including the vendors at the Velodrome Swap Meet.  I searched all over the place and the only thing I found was true junk.  What I ended up doing was having White Brothers custom make a Magic 100 for me with a 1" steerer tube.  It cost about $650 through Bikeworks in Harleysville, and took two weeks to get.  However it is an awesome fork and works way better than anything old you can dig up out there.

Just in case I couldn't get a new fork made, I bought the first 1" rigid fork I could find which was a Tange Superlight fork NOS.  It's still in the plastic, but if you are interested, I would be willing to part with it for what I paid.  Let me know if you are interested.

I have a Specialized Future Shock from my 1993 Rockhopper FS.  Air/Oil.  I believe it was the same as a Rock Shox with Specialized internal parts.  Not sure about the tube diameter.  I can check when I get home from work.

Checked the fork, it's a 1-1/8" tube diameter

Much thanks to Kenn and Don for hooking me up with Don's old Manitou 3! Can't wait to get this thing going.

Stupid question...It shouldn't make a difference if I use a "BMX" threaded headset rather than a "mountain" one as long as they're both 1 inch, right?

No problem Adam.  Glad to help.

Regarding the headset, shouldn't be a problem to use a BMX headset.  Just make sure the threads work together nicely.
