I was nipped on the leg...by a beagle. 

Ran up to me, off the leash, and bit me that f***ER.

Owner seemed as suprised as I was.  We kind of laughed about it but you can see the teeth marks on my leg.  funny.....but not funny.  full frontal assault...not a gnaw.  definitly a nip.  all front teeth.

That doesn't look like a laughing matter to me!!! Pretty bad.

I've been bit. Happened last year. It's a big city, you'll have that.

On saturday I was walking my dog on leash when another dog off leash came up and starting getting aggressive with my dog. My dog is not aggressive at all.  I was holding a shovel so I was able to push him away cross check style and yell at him which worked very well while I was waiting for the owner to get her act together. It seems if you can yell louder than they can bark it gets their attention.  If people have dogs that are known to be aggressive they should definetely not let them off leash.

As dedicated citizens of the multi-purpose use Wiss, we should promote leashes asking all who don't to get one on and check for dog licenses. Then we yell at the owners as loud as Tom can...

As far as I know, there is a leash law at the wiss but it is impossible to enforce.  I know I am one of the biggest violators of that law.  What's next a muzzle law?  Bottom line, dog owners need to be responsible for their dogs.  If their dogs bites someone or attacks another dog thy need to be held accountable for their actions.  I ride with my dog off leash almost everytime I'm at the Wiss.  I have him in 100% control.  I actually have an electronic color which works better than a leash.  When I say heal he is at my side, when I say sit, he sits and stays.  He is never a problem to anyone or anything, (except himself).  I take full resposnsibility for him and I am prepared to pay whatever fine is enforced for having him "off leash". 

ps -I know this may be the exception.   

Whenever I see a rider with a dog in the park, the dog is always very well trained and listens to their owners commands. Most dogs love to run. They live for it.

in a semi-related note, i have almost hit two dogs coming home down forbidden this week alone...

f-ing dog owners who have on control over there dogs really suck!

if you have no clue how to train your dog it has no business off a leash EVER!

i love dogs; and know it is not there fault when they are running outta control off the leash but it doesn't make avoiding them any easier.

IMHO, No matter how good your dog is, you should have it on a leash in a public place - for it's protection. Howmany times have we all been blazing downhill and frighten a group of hikers - or a dog off leash?  And for what its worth, the Wissahickon Park requires all pets in the park to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. If caught, they are subjest to fine of up to $300. http://www.fow.org/dog.php  Same as the rule for Philly.

Ever notice that Police always have their dogs on leashes, and they are cream of the crop when it comes to well trained dogs.  There is a reason for that.

This is another thorny issue. First let me say I don't have any dogs. But I have friends who like to ride with their dogs off leash. WHile it may seem harmless and the dog loves it, etc, there are people in the park that are afraid and get nervous around dogs no matter how trained and nice and obedient they are. Some people just don't like dogs. A dog can be the nicest thing on earth but when a strange one is running at you, you never know for certain if the dog in in control. Let's face it, there are lots of them that are out of control. I also got bit by one last year... So just know that by bringing your dog in the park off the leash is viewed by many as risky and or illegal behavior and will lead to user conflict. That's the botom line.
