Two public forums are scheduled this month on plans to improve and preserve 57 miles of trails in the Wissahickon Valley.
The Friends of the Wissahickon, a group that works to preserve the park along the Wissahickon Creek, has set meetings for March 20 and 22 on its Sustainable Trails Initiative.
Citizens are asked to voice their concerns about the project to the Friends of the Wissahickon and the Fairmount Park Commission
The initiative is a three-phased, multi-year project to make the trails for hiking and biking "a physically and socially sustainable system that works for all park users," officials said.
Maura McCarthy, executive director of Friends of the Wissahickon, yesterday said the project was in the middle of its second phase.
A crew of consultants has mapped existing trails and identified better routes for the core trails that run the length of the park.
The first of the public forums will be 6 to 8 p.m. on March 20 at the New Covenant Campus, 7500 Germantown Ave., in the city's Mount Airy Section.
The second meeting will be Mach 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Saul High School, 7100 Henry Avenue in the Roxborough section. "We're going to need a whole cadre of volunteers to implement the plans," McCarthy said. |
