PMBA's October Trail Maintenance Day got rained out. But the trail at Livezey Lane still needs repair. If anything the same storm that forced us to cancel the TM, also showed how much that sections needs our help. FOW was gracious enough to shuffle around their planned projects, and use November Work Day as the rian date for Livezey Lane maintenance! Where : Trail head starting from Livezey Lane. (Livezey Lane is on the East side of the park, please do not confuse it with Livezey Street. on the Roxboughro side, or you're running the risk of looking for us in the wrong place. As another land mark it is located just above the Livezey Rock, next to a very modern looking white house across the street. Here's a map of the location : http://tinyurl.com/2uv2xx) When : November 10th, 2007 at 9:00 AM Why : The top section of the trail is getting eroded by the water run off from the street. The lower section has a large mud puddle from the water seeping from the hillside. What : We will build several rollig grade dips at the top of the trail to divert the water coming down from the street off the trail. We will also re-route a section of the trail. At the bottom of the trail we will dig a new channel for the water, seeping from the springs in the hillside, to flow into the existing creek and under the bridge, instead of the across the trail. The mud puddle will be drained and a "french drain" will be made in it's place. Who : Everyone who uses and cares about the park! Parking : Livezey Lane is a small narrow street, and unfortunately, there is only limited amount of parking available. We will make every effort to secure parking along the street, including obtaining temporary, one day parking permits from FPC. However, we would like to ask everyone to be considerate and, if at all possible, car pool with friends, to reduce the number of vehicles on the site, and/or park at the top of the hill on Wayne Ave., on the other side of W. Allens Lane from Livezey. Thank you very much for your cooperation! Notes : a) Our work days are fully stocked with coffee, snacks, water and gatorade On top of that a hardy lunch will be also provided!!! We appreciate our volunteers giving back to the park and are trying to take good care of you!!! b) We will provide tools and work gloves. However, if you have a favorite super comfortable pair, feel free to bring it with you. For safety and comfort reasons, we recommend that you wear hiking or work boots (but any closed toes shoes would do), long pants and long sleeve shirts are helpful in protecting the skin from scratches and scrapes as well from poison ivy and possibly insect bites. The temperatures are getting cooler, so wearing long clothes shouldn't be terribly uncomfortable. |
